Amazon shuts down store due to ridiculous clause
« on: June 29, 2014, 11:44:33 AM »
Our online store was just shut down do to some fine print in Amazon's user agreement. We spent over 70 hours and a grand developing that store. 90 days later, Amazon sends me an email saying that they've canceled our store because we have an area which can't be accessed by the public without registering.  :017: To me, this is ridiculous. Nowadays, almost every site allows you to register for membership or to make a post. Besides, we weren't even displaying their content in the user's account area.  :-[

I appealed their decision. Got an email back with an additional excuse. Amazon stores can't be posted on auction websites. You would think that Amazon would have reviewed our site in the beginning and let us know that. Instead, they wait 90 days, let us waste our time and money, then close us down due to a technicality. This whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth and for that I'm permanently boycotting Amazon. I know they won't miss my business, but it's a matter of principle. Amazon is just too large and they could care less how their "one size fits all" policies effect the little guy.

You're not alone, I'm no Amazon fan myself. As a buyer I always seem to find items listed on Amazon for less elsewhere. As a seller I went with eBay over Amazon because it was easier to use, and was much less expensive to have a store at eBay.

I don't know how any of this works but couldn't you just put store on this page and link it?

If you have a private area anywhere on your site (for example your user profile on this forum), you're ineligible. It's a ridiculous policy. I could understand if it was an adult site or something. Besides, how hard is it for the person verifying the site to create an account? It takes about 20 seconds.
