Title: Funny Story

So get this. About a year before I started this site, I was trying to find a great domain. Obviously, OnlineStorageAuctions.com was my first choice, but the seller wanted a small fortune for it.

OnlineStorageAuction.com was my second choice, but the owner never responded to my emails. (Until recently, and we purchased it.)

VirtualStorageAuctions.com was my third choice, but I didn't feel that it was worth what the seller was asking. I think I offered him $300 for it and he declined.

VirtualStorageAuction.com was my last choice and it had never been registered, so I picked it up for $10 bucks.

As most of you know, we started this site under the VirtualStorageAuction.com domain. Several months later, I contacted the owner of VirtualStorageAuctions.com in an effort to acquire his domain to protect our brand. I offered him the same amount, $300, and he declined once again. At that point I gave up.

Here is the funny part. A couple times a year, I'll visit Godaddy auctions to see what storage auction related domains are for sale or have expired. So, I did a search for storage auctions and there was VirtualStorageAuctions.com. Apparently the owner had let the domain expire and Godaddy was auctioning it off. Ironically, the auction was scheduled to end in 36 hours. Best part of all, I was able to scoop it up for $22.

So, now we own all four of the domains listed above.

I just don't get some people. Why would you turn down a $300 offer if you're just going to let a domain expire?

You didn't start this site, you bought it from Drew.

Depends on the circumstances. Perhaps he changed emails and didn't realize it was expiring and you just got lucky. I was once selling a table on CL for $75. Some dope who wanted it real bad but was unwilling to pay for it kept offering me prices like $10, $10.50, $11, etc. He pissed me off to the point where I set the table on fire, took a picture of it burning, superimposed GFY on the photo, then upload it to the ad. That was the best $75 I ever threw away.

I meant before I started OSA, not the forum.  Oh, and you might want to look into anger management classes.  :043:

Didn't you do the same thing to your ex wife's storage unit?

I didn't do it out of anger, I did it because I wasn't ever going to give him the satisfaction of thinking he could ever own it. Yeah, I forgot about that ex-wife thing. Thanks for reminding me and making my day a little brighter.

No problem! But couldn't you have donated it to charity and got twice the satisfaction?

Nope, because there was always that chance they would sell it and he would buy it.
