cList....is dead!
« on: January 27, 2014, 09:36:17 AM »
Don't know about anyone else, but cList has been DEAD for me for about 4 weeks now. Not a single bite even let alone a sale.

eBay going great though, so thank goodness for the TWO venues.

Craigslist hasn't been too bad for me when I put new stuff up there. I've had some items up there for 6 months without any interest. Furniture flies out though!

It was kicking ass for me before Christmas and the first week of the new year........pretty much died since then....expect a resurgence middle of next month when tax refunds start rolling in.

OfferUp is killing it.  People seem to like the format better and it list things by distance.  Its local.  One mile, two miles......You know right off how close it is.

I thought it wouldn't be as good because there is only one picture and short description but people love it......

It is better for household stuff.  Things women buy.  Lower price stuff.
Don't see many tools or auto stuff moving.

OfferUp is killing it.

I looked it up after you mentioned it.  I joined. They are basing my interest area on my ip which is 50 miles away from where I live.

Yes, there are items and the distances show, but I am seeing a scattering of pics of different types of items.

I see some grouping categories on the left but I haven't looked at them yet except for the TOOLS category. Two tools came up.

This may go somewhere but for now I'll stick with cList. I think more people are open to the kind of organization they have on the main page and the opportunity to pick the state and city you want to look at.

I can tell you that eBay Classifieds hasn't been very successful in my area and you would think with their name they would be, but nope.

I guess it comes down to my geography again.   Lots of people.
Probably works best in the city.

And people buy anything when its close.   Saw a box of that disposable Tupperware stuff sell.  It was only $5 but still.  You know its just down the street, cheap....

I've yet to try listing any copper.  Seems big money items don't sell as well.

Tho, I should be listing on both OfferUp and CL.   Next one I have ready I'll give it a shot and report back on calls from one over the other.

I just read some negative reviews. One said he had put his zipcode in and NO ITEMS came up. This was typical of eBay Classifieds when I looked at them a year ago.

The zipcode feature doesn't seem to be part of the regular computer website opportunity so must be on mobile devices only.

Time will tell. I was surprised to see the service had been around since sometime in 2012. Your mention of it ws the first I had ever seen.

My own feeling towards OfferUp, I have no facts or statistics, is that it more of an impulse buy kind of thing.  Items are usually "clutter" from around people's house.  They aren't resellers, don't price high, just want it gone.

Buyers see its just down the road, cheap, easy.....

Think most people just use app and that only shows items nearby.  You have to actually do some work to search wider area.

Anyway, I get the feeling people don't "search" for items but rather just watch what scrolls by and decide "hey I need that"

Nice tool but not for everything or to use as sole selling venue.  IMO

Movieman-

I looked into OfferUp a bit more.  Seems like, over the past two years, our tastes for technology and how we use it seem to be similar.  So when you said you didn't like it I was confused. How could he not like this, the simplicity, the fact housewives dedicate their time watching posting in hopes of giving us money!
 ;D

Then I found out.....you and I are looking at different things.   Turns out offerup originated here.  It was developed for Seattle.  They are just now getting it nation wide.  Pretty much sucks unless your in a highly populated area.   Just like CL in the start up, give it time.

Still, I don't think it will ever be the only venue I use.  Some items need multiple pictures, large descriptions, wide geographic advertising......but offerup is a nice tool for some items.

Just checking......anybody see their craigslist pick up yet?  Up here in my area, it died about two weeks into January, and except for an occasional item here and there, it is still dead!  I've been hearing that from other regulars around the area too....

Same here in central California. I think I've sold two items in the last 6 to 7 weeks. Fortunately, one of them was pricey !

Craigs is garbage lately for me as well. Kinda like what happened with ebay. There is so much posted it is hard to go through everything if you are just browsing. I have had really great luck with the local facebook buy/sell page and my Etsy page though. It is all about diversifying I guess.

Not a whole lot going for me on Craigslist right now either. I think the weather has been a big factor, colder and snowier than normal this winter.
