Title: Selling Baby Clothes on Craigslist
Post by: Travis on September 03, 2013, 03:18:53 PM
My wife has a ton of gently used baby clothes she wants to sell bit since we don't have our weekly garage sales anymore we're having a hard time selling the stuff on Craigslist.

Does anyone have a special way to sell their baby clothes?

Do you sell them in bulk, sell piece by piece or organize them by size?

Do you think we would have better luck selling them at the flea market?

I've had select pieces up on craigslist. In fact, I do now.. (linked below)

I pick out clothes that look nice, group them together and price the same for all pieces.

Links no longer active.

Not a single bite!

This is a big event in Frisco north of Dallas, you might be able to find one near you or schedule a trip to Dallas in conjunction.

I've sold baby clothes on two occasions on EBAY. Both times they were pretty big lots of around 100 pieces, all newborn to around 6 months size and in good shape. The first time I got about $160.00 and the second time more like $110. At a garage sale I would have sold them at $1 each and definitely not sold them all so just do EBAY for baby clothes now.

The best place to sell baby clothes is at a flea market or a garage sale. The good moms want to inspect the clothing before buying it and you can't see or feel or smell it on CL.

Thanks, I appreciate everyone's insight. I think I'll give ebay a try. DBR ...those prices you quoted...did you charge them for shipping as well?

Yes I charged for shipping in addition to purchase price. They were pretty heavy.

I never really made much on baby clothing.  Most of the time I just toss them on a table at the flea market and take offers.

baby clothes sell nicely since most are not used for long so almostnew and cuz that stuff is so expensive new you can save so much money buying used. i would sell in bulk just because i value my time more than meetin up with someone to sell a $5 item however either way you can make a nice profit.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before or not, but clothes, especially baby/kids clothes and handbags do really well on facebook.

A couple of years ago my mother in law's neighbor, who was elderly got sick.  Her son came to visit her and found out she was a hoarder(lots and lots and lots of unopened avon products dating back to the 80's) His mother was going to a nursing home and now he was stuck with the task of getting all of this stuff out of the house so it could be cleaned, fixed up and sold.  We just happened to be visiting MIL that day, went over and was like "Hey, we'll take care of this for you, we will get all of the stuff out, you don't have to pay us money, we just want the stuff."  So we got all of this stuff and we resold it all.  A lot of it on facebook.  I made a lot of money.  Enough to completely finance Christmas(at the time it was late fall)  that year plus my husband and I bought ourselves a $500 dog(see profile pic  ;) )  I probably could of made more money selling on ebay, especially the older stuff but I needed it gone fast, we where not prepared to store that much stuff because it was just pure luck we came across a situation like that.   I was an avon rep for almost 4 years so I knew what a lot of the stuff was worth, so I lowered the price accordingly to make it go fast.

Anyway my point is, while I was frequenting these facebook groups I noticed that clothes, handbags and holiday decorations(especially around whatever holiday the decorations are for) Sell  really well.  Of course you have to price them right, but with the clothes people normally just put them in lots and sell them that way.

Just search for resale or rummage groups in your area on facebook and join or if they are not public ask to join, and then start posting.  Just a little warning, I don't know about other areas but my area the buyers can be difficult.  It's mostly women and they can be catty/cliquey and love drama, they seem to forget that they are grownups and not in high school anymore, and half the time the admins on the group are no better.  So if you can't deal with the BS I don't suggest you try to sell there.  That is why I mainly try to stick to craigslist, flea markets and yard sales now.  If I have something that doesn't sell, or a lot of clothes then I will post on facebook.

Facebook was working out well for me, now it seems like there's more people selling and less people buying. I post and post and post with no responses. All sorts of items too.. Clothes, housewares, furniture, art, etc.

Same here, it seems like most buyers have given up because of all the drama and difficulty in finding what you are looking for. If you are the type to just browse and buy whatever shows up for a good deal, it is perfect, but if you are looking for a specific item good luck! Oh and things are selling but it is cheap crap for around a dollar, I don't know who has the time to wait around to sell something for a dollar or is willing to drive 20 minutes to buy something for a dollar you could pick up at walmart for $1.50 the next time you are there. Certainly not me!

That's exactly what happened to eBay.
