Hey guys these are not from auctions but helping a buddy of mine sell some computers. He's an IT guy at a local university so takes really good care of his computers and goes through alot so he asked me to sell a Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, Mac Mini and  Lenovo X220. I havn't really sold computers on craigslist, curious if I'll get low balled as bad as on other items and also if any of you guys are into mac would love some advice on pricing as I'm more a pc guy. I'm curious if I wanna do on cl and avoid ebay fees and get cash or if I may wind up better off letting the auctions run their course and letting market determine price. ALso if any of you guys are mac gys or computer guys in general would love some advice on pricing these.

Lenovo X220 with solid state drive
Macbook Pro 13' Model A1278
Mac Mini Model A1283
Macbook Air 13 Model A1369

Look up each of those on eBay and select completed listings. That will give you an idea of what people are willing to pay for them.

Yeah was trying to do that, was seeing things go for a pretty huge range, also some people put in more ram or a solid state or something and then that kinda affects price too. You think I'll be able to get ebay prices on cl since they are macs and lot of demand or think I'll get lowballed like everything else?

These things can vary by region, there are areas in the country where people can afford to pay more than in other areas. But at the same time around now is the time to get the best prices on laptop and notebook style computers. It seems to have something to do with kids going back to school and/or the approaching holiday season. Keep this in mind, if it costs $10 to list and sell it on eBay but you get $30 more for it, is CL really a more cost effective way to sell it?

For large items like furniture CL is definitely the way to go, but with smaller items that can be easily shipped, I tend to favor selling on eBay.

Some stuff didn't go for quite the prices I was hoping for but still gonna wind up doing okay. Pretty much made my money off 3 of the 4 computers so the last one will be money in the bank trying to get 700 but thinking 400 or 500 is more likely.

Finally sold 3 of the 4 computers. Didn't get quite what I wanted for any of them but still doing pretty good. Basically made my money back including ebay fees and postage off the first 3, last computer is gonna be all profit. If I really waited for the right buyer I could probably get at least $600 but I'm thinking I just wanna move it fast and get a quick $400. Oddly enough wound up selling all on ebay as craigslist proved to be too big of a headache.

Is it more advantageous to start an eBay auction at a low price or higher price?
