anyone have an ebay store?
« on: September 11, 2011, 06:22:20 PM »
I am wondering at which point it becomes more effiecient to pay for a store than to pay listing fees for 50+ items every month??  Is there a logical transfer point?

I looked at the advantage of having the ability to list things for a set price, and then after trying it for a few months decided that that wasn't really an advantage at all.

It depends on how many things you sell.Some levels you can list thins for 5 cents for a thirty day listing.You can also put things on sale.If you are listing 50 things a month you are probably getting the free listings anyway.You just need to see whats cost effective for you.

I've not done the math or have the volumne so I'm still doing it the cheapest way that I can.  If things don't sell on CL or they look to sell on ebay well I list there.  So far only listed my $100+ items on ebay.  I just really hate paying the 9% FV fee and then the $.30 + 3% paypal fee.  But if I can't sell it local at least I'm still making money......till I get burned by a ebay/paypal scammer on merchendise anyways.

Ok just did some rough math as I was curious about prices.  Insertion fee's are the same for auction style listings.  Assuming that you have a basic store and list/sale 125 items in the $10-24.99 range, and that the final value is $24.  The breakdown would be like this:

Person:                                                                           Store:
Listing 1 - 50 free, 51-125 cost $37.50                              Listing 1 - 125 cost $62.50
FV Fees @ 9%, 2.16 per sale = $270                                 FV Fees @ 7.5% = $225
                                                                                      Cost of Store: $15.95 @ basic

Total = $307.50                                                               Total = $303.45

Now lets look at fixed price auctions in say Books, CDs, Music, and Games.  Lets say 50 auctions with a final price of $10 each.

Person:                                                                           Store:
Listing 1-50 cost $25                                                        Listing 1-50 cost $10
FV Fees @ 13% = $65                                                      FV Fees @ 13% (under $50) = $65
                                                                                      Cost of Store: $15.95 @ basic

Total = $90                                                                     Total = $90.95

So for the most part everything is a wash.  There are really too many variables to calculate a specific cost point of turn over.  It all depends on what you are selling, how many items at what price they sale, etc.  If you are doing mostly all the same type of sales then I would take a history of your listings, % that sold, Avg price and then plug it into some formulas.  If you are only doing 50-100 listings a month it's better to just get the first 50 free and then pay the insertion on the other 50 if they are all near the same price range.

One trick I thought of if you have many listings.  Do your higher value listings free so you get the most bang for your 50 free listings.  So list all the $50 or more items, wait a day or so, and then list your other under $50 items.  Could save you $.25 to $.90 per listing.
