Have you ever been dinged by negative feedback and if so did it hurt your sales for a while?

I've gotten 1 (out of 950 plus) and the details are in the paragraph below which I copied and pasted from
an earlier thread in this forum.

Years ago I received a negative feedback for a Princess House item I sold. The buyer said it wasn't Princess House though it was shipped in its original PH box and had the PH pattern in the glass. That negative feedback stayed with me for 1 solid year until it cleared out. At that time I was able to give the buyer negative feedback as well. Now, 7 years later, my feedback has gone from 100 or so (then) to almost 1,000 now (not a lot, but I'm happy with it). Meanwhile the person who left me the negative STILL has 10 feedback and they are ALL as a buyer.

While it didn't hurt my business, it hung around for a year before going away. Fortunately, those buyers who do look at your profile for feedback results take this with a grain of salt and for the most part, most of them won't go through each of 10 or more pages to find the negative.  Update on the other person's feedback: It went from 10 to 11. The person bought one item this year and actually got feedback from the seller.

I had one negative feedback last year when I sold a used pair of Versace shoes. The guy waited 2 weeks after he received the shoes to contact me. He said that the shoes had scuff marks on the soles. I responded to him politely and said that the shoes were clearly marked used and that one would reasonably assume that the soles would have some wear. He immediately filed negative feedback.

I called eBay and explained the situation to a lady working customer service and after she reviewed our emails, she reversed the negative feedback.

MM, if you haven't tried already, it might be worth giving eBay a call to see if they will reverse the feedback for you. If it has been a while and the rest of your transactions have positive feedback, they'll probably do it for you.

Definitely not worth it. It was 7 years ago and it is so far buried in I forget how many pages that it doesn't show up anywhere; remember the little tracking box at the top of the feedback area only goes back a year.

travis, thats awesome you were able to get feedback reversed. not sure if they changed their policies but now days no matter how ridiculous the feedback no matter how wrong the buyer really is  ebay now says the only reasons they will reverse feedback is if someone calls out someone by name or address, vulgar language, or links. toehr than that ebay can agree you as the seler are right but feedback will stick.

it hurts you if your a power seller or top rated seller. as far as hurting business you would think if someone has 1000 good and 1 bad people would realize its a one off and an unreasonable buyer however it still doesnt help you

Had one a couple years ago - sold a large lot of Mary Kay. Buyer was overseas but shipping address was Florida, I think. Several weeks later I get bad feedback saying items were not in boxes as advertised and also get a message from the buyer saying essentially the same thing. After several messages back and forth it seems the buyer used someone in the US to buy the lot and then they forwarded to him in Vietnam. I sent it all in original boxes as pictures but the nearest I can figure is the recipient in Florida removed the boxes, I presume to make the very large lot fit in a smaller box for overseas shipping. Bummer but not my fault. The bad feedback was there for a year but I don't think it hurt me at all.

I had an international twit give me negative feedback because he didn't know he had to pay import duties. He somehow though it was my fault that this country sets and implements those charges. We messaged back and forth several times and I explained import duties have nothing to do with a seller or eBay. He wanted me to reimburse him the fees to which I said no, so he gave me negative feedback citing high import duties as the reason.

The reversal was maybe 6-8 months ago. Maybe I just got lucky.

Maybe, because when I called them the best they could do was to remove the comment field and leave it blank.

i stopped doing business with international customers for this reason. if something gets held up in customs, shipping takes longer, etc the buyer always seems to blame us sellers for things that are otu of our control and thing that will happen to any international items they buy.

heck another problem depending on the country some countries are notorious for people stealing goods out of the mail. when i was living in mexico before i learned my lesson i had my mom sned me some clothes and items, nice stuff. when i got the box my clothes had been taken out and replaced with dirty underwear, newspapers, etc.

on ebay your forced to accept paypal however on my own website where i sell stuff ill accept cashiers checks and let customers know once i ship and provide tracking i take no responsibility for mailing time, lost packages, problems with customs. most customers are okay with this as well b/c im one if not the only one of those in my industry who ship internationally

Even those aren't safe to take anymore. Contrary to popular belief, cashiers checks actually take 2 weeks to fully clear. So if you're given a forged cashiers check your bank will accept it, but they will reverse the deposit 2 weeks later if it turns out to be no good.

I had one item that this individual rang the price up. He did not follow through on payment details (at the time US money order). I got harrassing emails about them sending the money to my Paypal account (which I did not have at the time), money was wired to me (no exact location).
With that they kept bugging me to send the item (I never got paid) and they hit me with negative feedback. Ebay did have it removed after I fought it.

People are crazy and it happens.
