Title: Early Bird at Garage Sales...are you one ?
Post by: MovieMan on June 12, 2013, 07:58:59 PM
Do you show up at garage sales prior to their “opening” time ?

If so, does this "early bird" approach work for you? Do you use any special spiel to get cooperation?

When I was having my weekly garage sales, I didn't really mind early birds. They can be some of your best customers. When I was having weekly garage sales, I developed a following. These people arrived at 6:50 AM every Saturday. Can't blame them, after all "the early bird catches the worm."

The sad thing is that if you don't get there early all the resellers will get the good stuff.  It also seems as if the sellers will be wanting to sell the stuff cheaper to get there stuff gone...

When having garage sales, I priced things fairly and the merchandise moved quickly. I usually stayed open until around 5:00 PM, so around 1:00 PM, I dropped prices even further. (Less to load up) The regulars knew this so they would come back in the afternoon and fill up trash bags full of stuff. Since most of the good merchandise was gone by 2:00 PM, I'd usually just price the stuff around $30 - $50 a bag.
