Two sales a year ordinance

Two sales a year ordinance

In the city of 300,000 where I live, there is a limit on how many garage sales you can have in a year. They are limited to three days each, and have to have at least six months between sales. We have one sale in late March or the first weekend in April, then another in late September or the first weekend in October. Thursday is a GREAT day for sales here. We run ours Thursday-Saturday.

We have a neighbor who would turn us in without hesitation if we tried to have the sales less than six months apart. I have some professionally made signs that I reuse. I do not put the date on the signs, just GARAGE SALE, the address, and TODAY 8am-3pm. I ordered these from vistaprint.com and they work great! Weatherproof and very sturdy. We advertise on craigslist and spring for an ad in the local paper. I have tried skipping the newspaper ad to save the $33, but I really notice an increase in traffic when we place an ad.

Know anyone else in town that would let you use their driveway so that you could hold garages sales 4 times a year?

We move ours around so it doesn't bother our neighbors.

Yes, as a matter of fact we are going to have one at my daughter's house this summer . I need to ask around, I bet my dad would let me use his driveway.

I would say this is pretty typical the only 6 months apart rules is kinda gay though in northern areas that would mean one of your sales was in colder weather.

my city has the 2 a year rule however there is absolutely no permiting process like many cities so there's really no record of you having a sale.

as for where to advertise i stopped springing for newspaper ads. i do craigslist as well as all the free yardsale listing type sites that are out there.

jerk neighbors are always a pain. a few suggestions have a garage sale at a friends house yeah its a pain moving your stuff over there but so what. other option like lots of people on here rent or find a private lot you can use and setup a sale in an old used car lot, abandoned lot, etc.

One reason we just bought a cargo van is to move our tables and sale stuff.

Find you a local flea market, you will have more people see your stuff and normally renting a space is cheaper than advertising and fees.

The 2 times a year yard sale seems to be a common thing.  As someone said their is no permit process, but there are neighbors that complain about traffic and this is how most get caught.  If you look around there are Churches that hat flea markets and sell table space.

I always get more for my items at the flea market.  People seem to think "yard sale they are just getting rid of what they don't want"  At the flea they realize you are trying to make money and will hold an item to get your price.  Just my .02.

We have helped  friends / co-workers in the past with there yard sales by letting them use our tables , posting there add on Craig's , using our signs ,  and helping price there items ,  and  pulling items that are worth more $$ and Not Yard Sale items .
They usually ask if We want to set up a table or two .   LOL
We can usually have a yard sale at Home on Sat. , make around $ 250 + , then load up the maxi van with the leftovers and go to the Hubbardston  Flea Market 20 X 20 with 2 tables      for $ 30. and make another $ 120 to $ 200 +.     ;D
