Title: Anyone seeing ST ads on this site?
Post by: Travis on February 03, 2014, 12:42:06 PM
Someone reported seeing a Storage Treasures Adwords ad on the forum. Just wondering if anyone else has seen one of their ads here? They should shouldn't be appearing, I blocked their ads a long time ago. But I guess it's possible if they used a different URL in their ads.

I would've responded sooner but clicking on the storage treasures ad at the top of the forum brought me there and I couldn't get back. It was like being stuck in a Twilight Zone episode. :)

I hate being stuck in those sites that won't let you go back easily. Takes a few tries to get out of it one way or the other. Sneaky making their way in here.

I wonder why I've never seen any of the ads.

It is a puzzle. Maybe you should give up buying lockers and spend more time online.

The next time one of you see their ad, hover over it and see what the URL is. Should be a long Google URL with the advertiser's domain listed at the end. Since I have them blocked, they probably have a different domain which 301 redirects to their main site.

Yep, seriously. All's fair in love and war as the saying goes and I doubt there is any business that doesn't cut corners and try things such as infiltrating a competitor's website.

Since I'm the one that reported it, I can share a story..

When I owned my pet food store, some manufacturers of food had MAP pricing, which stands for "Minimum Advertised Price", if you were caught selling below the MAP price you will not receive anymore of their product.  So when trying to compete I sold everything at MAP pricing, and some food stores offered it below MAP and were doing so with Adwords campaign.

I called the manufacturer, I told them and they said they don't see the violations, I took screen shots and they told me that they don't see the violation when they search on Google.

Turns out when they were running their Adwords campaign, you can target where you want to display you ads, they targeted all locations, minus where the manufacturer was located, so they never seen the violations.

This can explain why other users see them and you don't.

See reply #4 and reply #9 above. These were both mine but they were edited for content by ..... a person who shall remain un-named here.

Also, I think Alloro had one post completely deleted, but that was because he responded to one of my posts, so with mine edited I guess his would no longer make sense.

Makes sense to me and it's still "good to be the king".  ;D

There is a fine line between art and vandalism. I was just painting over your graffiti.  ;D

You mean the very generic reference to the fact that ANY website could buy a service which would influence the view of how many people ligitimately went to the website?

RFR used to sell this service. Don't know if he does anymore.

I apologize, I thought you were insinuating that I was somehow inflating statistics on this site.

Nope, I wasn't implying that, but apparently when you read it you inferred it. People do that sometimes.  ;D

It's good to be the king. Only elected officials need to explain themselves.

What? You mean to tell me that you weren't part of the conspiracy?   ;)

No, I'm the victim here.
