I've been picking receivers and amps from the late 70s through 80's of late and doing OK with them.
Anyone else doing well with this kind of electronics?

Yes and no. Depends on the brand and what it is. Vintage speakers, not really. Record players are on fire! Anything hi-fi with a silver face sells like hotcakes too.

I am not an electronics guy. I can't tell one from the other even by researching them.
My friend knows a bit and has made money buying from estates. Picked up a whole system for $35 and sold the receiver the next day for $200. Few weeks later I saw the same brand, looked the same....called him and it was one model newer that was worthless.
Same thing with turntables. He has three, all Technics, all have the same specs, all work. He explained that all are basically exactly the same but one is $300 and the other two he picked up for parts...?
Plus he knows how to fix. Blown channel? needs new resistors? Costs him pennies to solder new "stuff" in.
I just stay away. To many variables. Plus it seems like, unless you pick something cherry, you sit on a lot of items for a while. Everyone I know that's into it has just stacks and piles of electronics cluttering up space.
All that said.....I still keep an eye out because with just the limited research I've done there is almost a cult following on some of those '70s & '80s electronics.
So to answer your question: No, haven't done well with electronics due to my total lack of knowledge.....and total boredom when trying to gain knowledge.

I can't keep vintage receivers. I have a pair of new Bose speakers that I hook them up to. Usually they only last a week or two. Normally I sell most between $150 and $200.
Anything else sits forever. I have two really nice turn tables I thought would sell quick that are still sitting here after 6 months. They are not a loss though as I reclaimed them from the electronic recycle at the local storage facility. Another reason to make good friends with the managers.

It depends. Condition is definitely a key factor when dealing with vintage electronics. I found a Marantz 2325 receiver and a pair of JBL Jubal speakers in a unit. Put $125.00 into repairing the receiver, and sold it for $740.00. The wood on the speakers was trashed, so I cannibalized them and sold the speakers themselves for $125.00 and the tweeters went for $400.00 (rare, sought after JBL L65's). It also doesn't hurt to have a reliable, affordable audio repair tech in your contacts list for when you do come across these items.

old speakers sell really well. alot of my relatives who are really into music seek out old speakers and pay hugely inflated prices. they say it sounds better, probably a combination of that and nostolgia so old speakers definately sell. as for receivers and stuff i would guess not quite as well since the new stuff is so much more high tech but who knows

Old mics sell but the rest we just throw away! I work in radio and last month we filled the dumpster with old audio equipment! Its all digital now and pro tools software can give you any sound you are looking for.

Just bought a locker and found an old Betamax player. I had to throw it away because it's all dented on top. The cartridge receiver was busted in. While researching it, I learned that the model I had goes for like $150! I was shocked because of the lack of titles available for Betamax. I had to throw mine away because of the repairs needed, but wow!

Speaking of vintage electronics, I just found a Mitsubishi Z-40 Tape/record player. It was probably high-end in it's day, which makes it pretty rare now that it's obsolete. Couldn't even find one for sale on eBay and I don't have a clue if it's worth anything.

Z-40 was made in 1985. Without the speakers, in working condition, I'd price it at $100. With speakers and in working condition could be up to $250.
