Does the clothing you wear to a storage auction affect your success? Do you think dressing up or dressing down makes a difference?

Just a theory, but I think there might be more to it.

Do you think some people might try to run you up if your dressed like you have money?

Do you think dressing nice could cause some people to be intimidated by you and not challenge you?

Do you think dressing down could cause a "sympathy effect" where people don't challenge you as much because they feel sorry for you.

I think people are less likely to run someone up who looks like they don't have money because they don't want to get stuck buying the unit.

I dress pretty grungy. The regulars know I have money to drop, so i'm not fooling them, but somehow showing up to an auction in Polos, turtle neck sweater & docksiders screams "run that guy up".

I went to an auction recently attended by a group of preppy newbies, don't know if they knew each other or if it was just a coincidence. Anyway, I was dressed pretty grunge and started bidding high on a unit and I could hear murmurs and laughter and gossip behind me. I get the feeling they were thinking "God, that guy is spending his entire welfare check on one unit!" I don't mind if people think that about me.  ;)

I never seen anyone who came to an auction dressed in high fashion or business attire when a unit for cheap, so what does that tell you.

As a woman knowing I will be sticking my hands in the most un-Godly things, I dress for total comfort. I don't dress in ripped, grungy clothing and blacken my front teeth, but what I do wear is for working.

What, no sun dresses and ornate cowgirl boots? Someone should pass that info on to the producers of Storage Wars Texas.

The clothes are best to have around christmas time. We just won a 60 inch flat screen at work for donating the most cloths at the cloths drive. That locker paid itself off of 250.00 bucks winning the cloths drive.

If it's a saturday then for me it's jeans and a t-shirt.  If like today the auction is during or after work it's slacks n polo or shirt/tie (minus the tie).  Everyone knows me so only the newbies would look at me funny sometimes.  Since I'm only a small - mid size fish in this pond the cloths don't matter.

Won a tv for donating cloths?  Dang - I need to find a shop that will do that for me.  Or even a dang raffle ticket for every bag you bring in.
