Parking Citations....there goes the profit !
« on: March 17, 2011, 02:20:37 PM »
Heard a story about a San Francisco auction.
In downtown the parking is tight of course and often storage units are vertical unlike the horizontal suburbs.

Fellow parks his big honking dually truck with full back seat and 16 foot trailer "across" about 4 parking spots each of which had a parking meter.  Puts in 1 hour worth of quarters in each of the 4 meters. I think his trailer was a foot over into a fifth space too, but he didn't feed that meter.

Anyway, he comes back 2 hours and 20 minutes later and finds HUGE number of parking tickets on the windshield, one for each of the 5 spots and one for each of the hours (and partial hours) he was over his paid time.

Total bill was $700.  :o Then he still had to get the 4th floor goodies out, and the elevator wasn't working.
True story (though I wasn't there....I trust the guy who told me.)  Oh well .

Bonehead.  He should have either parked somewhere inconvenient, had someone along who could refead the meters, or drove a smaller vehicle to the auctions and returned later with the truck.

Locally, expired meter tickets cost something like $15.  Assuming that they only reticket once per hour, he's be on the hook for eleven tickets (three for the fifth spot and two each for the other four) amounting to something like $165.  Of course, I'd be worried that tptb would simply tow the truck away...

In a big city like San Francisco they might be more expensive and added costs could have bumped it up too.
For instance a citation for talking on a cell phone while driving is $25...doesn't seem bad, but by the time they have added other costs, it is $175.

What I find funny about the story is that there were even that many parking spaces in a row available at one time, but like I said I trust the person who told me the story.

Most of the facilities in my area now that crowds are out will open the gate and let people park in the facility. Only once did we have to park along a frontage road where cops actually showed up and started ticketing.

It was funny to watch as we all saw them pull up. We watched which end the cop started at, everyone parked at that end made a beeline for the exit, those of us on the other end waited as there were probably a good 50 cars before he got to ours.

Definately helped thin out the crowd lol although all the units wound up being garbage anywa

Hey there....

You will get better response to your question if you go to a main section heading...like general auction talk...then start your own thread....maybe one like "Working from home....".

You have posted under a thread that deals with making bad parking decisions at an auction.
