Post by: mhuynh9 on October 04, 2013, 05:53:12 AM
Has anyone tried to steam clean tools to help resale value?

I haven't. I usually sell the tools in bulk as is.

I know it will remove grease but how well does it work on corrosion?

I have not, but in the summer time I take couches and chairs that are dirty to the drive in power wash car washes and give them a good power washing. Let them sun dry and they're nearly good as new! Can't do it in the colder months though..

The only way to help the re-sale value of tools around here is to dip them in molten 24k gold!  :D

I'm going to keep my eye on this thread. I love steam cleaners, the problem however is unless your willing to spend big money on one they are generally crap. I think of them like paint sprayers, awesome investment, time saving, does a better job than rollers or brushes but if you go buy the $100 one its gonna clog all day. You get a more expensive one they are great.

Same with steam cleaners, most ofthe cheap ones dont get hot enough, dont work well, or only hold enough steam to clean for like a few minutes and then need to recharge.

That's what I do on really bad cars.  Take seats out, scrub, pressure wash, then use shop vac to suck up dirt and water.    I've even do be the carpets that way.   Then dry in paint booth.
You can let car run with full heat too but on colder days it had taken 6-8 hours.   That's a lotta gas.
I'll stick an ozone machine in there too.  Kills everything, bacteria, mold, smoke smell......

I'm not a big fan of steam.  To much time.  It works but when your paid per job.....time=money.

For parts and tools I just dump them in a parts washer.  You can get one for $75-$150.  Plus cost of solvent.
