Things you thought you'd never sell
« on: April 24, 2013, 02:21:50 PM »
Hot Dang! I just sold a 27 inch tube television for $20.

Also, I just sold a full size mattress with a gigantic pee stain for $80.

Thought I would get stuck with this stuff but it never ceases to amaze me what people will buy.

Have you sold any hard to sell merchandise lately?

Had a pile of nasty ladies underwear in the corner of a unit, put a pic of a hot girl in the casual encounters section of craigslist, $10 a pair, said I was sellingmy dirty panties to upscale businessmen.

What has amazed me over the past year is the stuff that I thought would sell quick (nice furniture, etc.) sits for weeks on end.  Then the stuff I think would not sell goes out the door in the first week or two.

Case in point - had a 4 drawer dresser that someone kicked in the side.  It being particle board of course there was a big hole.  The top of the dresser was a little bubbled up also.  Figured it's junk but slapped a $14.99 price tag on it anyways since we had room.  Sold it on the 4th day we had the store open.

Now solid furniture no matter how it looks I can sell.  Get a number of re-furnish type people.  But particle board....I think it's not going to move when it's broke like that and it does.

Yeah, same here. Lately, the low end stuff has been selling fast. Tube TV, low end microwave, cheap mattresses and damaged furniture that has been severely reduced, etc. Mattresses have been flying off the shelf. It kind of makes me want to start a used mattress company.

No calls at all on the average and high quality furniture.

A couple of weekends ago I sold 5 fishing poles. Not that fishing poles don't sell.. but these were in rough shape. One was held together with duct tape. They sold though. Just gotta price them right. $5 ea. was the right price!

The surprising and funniest thing we ever sold was a S.F. 49r's large bath towel. By itself if isn't strange but the story goes: The towel was purchased over 10 years ago, was used quite often and was faded. We had fragile items to take to an auction house so we wrapped them in this towel, (right before the Superbowl by the way). Anyway, we figured it would get tossed once the items were removed but, we were shocked that it actually came out for the auctioneer. We got 17.50 for it and couldn't believe it! We were thrilled of course and kept laughing and looking shocked as the bids got higher.   ;D

How do i get hooked up with someone who will buy my storage stuff. i would love to make some one a great deal. i have everything from a boat to music equiptment, shop tools even a bunch of household items. i know for a fact there is silver in one of those boxes. I for one suck as a sales person nor do I have the time or energy to hunt for buyers.  i would love to have an auction sell it all at once.  searching for answers?? :)   :-*

Hot Damn! I just sold a fan in the middle of winter! Been trying to sell it since summer. It's a really nice oscillating shop fan that still retails at Lowes for $150 plus tax. Had it priced at $70 and only had 1 person come look at it in 5 months. Had just about given up. Haven't posted it on Craigslist in the last thirty days. Re-posted it today and it sold within hours. Go figure.
