Matresses are a big turn off for me as well as sofas.  They are almost always headed to the dump.

Mattresses and the distinct smell of cat urine.

Cat urine bothers you and you have ferrets? You must clean their cages daily.

Mattresses and couches as well for me. $20.00 to dump a mattress and $35.00 for a couch. If you are the lucky winner of a hide-a-bed you get to pay both fees $55.00.

Toys and baby furniture because according to my liability policy I cannot sell them or I will get canceled.

Boxes and boxes marked books. I spent this last weekend filling an empty 3 yard recycle dumpster with book I have had in the store since we opened. I really don't want anymore books.

If the unit has gotten wet. I have seen three different units that the fire sprinklers went off in and the contents had gotten wet. First most stuff is ruined and then the smell of mold is awful. Not interested in a unit that has been wet.

Like everyone else I avoid mattresses if possible. Visible mouse / rat droppings make me think twice. I'm not a big fan of produce boxes or stolen boxes. By stolen I mean those plastic USPS boxes and the plastic flip top boxes with store names on them (Safeway, Rite-Aid...)  Seems like whenever I see a bunch of boxes like that the stuff inside doesn't amount to much. I guess if you are low enough to steal boxes from the grocery store your possessions aren't generally worth much. And the produce boxes always seem to be clothes and cheap household stuff. I think it is because the people that use them are quite often the field workers who just don't have high end stuff. I prefer boxes that people had to pay for. I also avoid units with lots of press board furniture.

Actually I do clean their cage daily. But putting that aside, ferret urine has no foul and overpowering odor like with cats.

Mattresses don't scare me, because I see them so often. Costs me nothing to dump.. Odors, like cat urine, will make me run. Another thing I look for is yellowing of electronics (remotes), white lamps, tables, etc. Sign of a heavy smoker, and I'll back away.

I once pulled a couch from a smoker's unit and the whole arm of the couch was covered in black tar. Nasty..

Tools...I know the unit will go higher then I am willing to pay.

MOLD!

Rodent droppings.

Liquor, produce, fast food boxes.

Mattresses can be a double edge sword; sometimes they keep me from bidding on a unit but other times they are the reason I can get a good unit for cheap cause others don't want to mess with them.
