My Avalanche  -  used to power my phone, laptop, kindle.  Used to haul loads from the unit and out to the flea.  Storage space for all the other tools of the trade (duct tape, trash bags, broom & dust pan, etc.).

Since I am increasingly depending on "picking" to fill the gaps between auction buys, I would have to say my iPad.

For making decisions to buy or not to buy it hasn't steered me wrong yet.

Brains, brawn & seed money.....Can't do this business without any of those, but if it has to be one 'solid' item......my computer.  I need it to locate auctions, research inventory and finally....sell...sell...sell!!!

Laptop from company where I work.  Bring it home on weekends and holidays.  I will have to buy one or a tablet when I retire June 30 this year.  Will upgrade to smart phone sometime in April.

i was gonna say the same thing, alota dumbies out there who ran out after seeing the show and spent hundreds if not thousands on "tools" but aren't smart about buying units, dont know how to unload merchandise, work harder instead of smarter. brain is the best tool you got well that and contacts i suppose as in business contacts not eyeglass contacts.

don't know how to unload merchandise

It has been my experience that most people know how to unload merchandise, it's just that most of them are too lazy to do the work. They live by the motto, "why do today what you can put off until tomorrow."

Say what?

A bidding matrix=a complex, but efficient algorithm for deciding whether to buy a unit or not.

(most of us use a gut feeling based on what we see and maybe on what we know about the former tenant)

My phone with unlimited data and talk... Nothing like showing up for any type of auction and being able to google instant pricing and info. I also use it to phone a friend if I am looking at tools, construction equipment, anything to do with snakes/lizards, etc... I also use it to post to Craigslist and most recently eBay. It is also my primary camera for reselling even though I have several super nice cameras with lenses/lighting. I honestly don't think I could do what I do without it...

Research! That's my new best tool to use. With all the scams of storage owners/employees going thru units cherry picking what they want! I like to do research to find out as much as possible about the storage property I go to. There are just way,way to many stories with proof of how these units have been gone thru and picked of what is valuable. What do you expect these shows have changed buying units for the worse. Sad but true! Everyone wants a piece of the pie.

Latino's from HomeDepot parking lot.
Seriously. Not being racist. Those guys are awesome!
Work hard, fast and for a reasonable price.

Need a locker boxed, trucked and cleaned in under an hour? Done.

Tablet computer for looking things up, my wife and I both carry them and can get info on items we see in lockers pretty fast.

Another super useful tool in this business and in life in general is a pocket knife.  I'd be lost without one.
