Yep, it was posted in the thread link below a day or so ago. It's harder to find the story now on TMZ than it was then though.

The reason he killed himself: he realized that his Nintendo 001 wasn't worth $10,000.

That's an insensitive comment even from you.

I am sure the "hyperbole"  of the show played a part. People recognize that "showmanship" maybe legal, but there is always some fallout for guilding the lily.  We will never know.

It was a joke. An insensitive comment would be something like "he was a dumba$$ on the show and he left this world in the ultimate dumba$$ way." But I'm not insensitive, so I would never say that.  ;)

Do you really feel sorry for the guy? I don't. He was a arrogant drug addict who flaunted his money.

I feel sorry for his girlfriend, his parents, and other family members, but I refuse to feel sympathy toward someone who committed such a selfish act against the people who loved him.

Would you feel comfortable showing your comments to those people he left behind?

Absolutely.

I'm with Travis.. Suicide is the cowardly way to "face" your problems. In fact, you just leave all your problems to the people who love you. I have no respect for anyone who commits suicide. I guarantee that whatever problems he had, it would have been better to deal with them head on, like a man, than leave them for your loved ones to clean up..

Not necessarily speaking about Mark's situation, but sometimes I wonder if people get so lost, confused, or lose control of their mind that they are not even able to see their actions as being selfish or cowardly. I not sure we can really put a rational explanation toward the thought processes that happen that lead someone to commit suicide. Science might be able to show if their are chemical imbalances, disorders, synoptic breaks, brain damage, etc. that cause suicide, but we may not be able to rationalize their decision making process.

Although I'm no fan of suicide I have to disagree with you since none of us necessarily know the whole story. Is someone that's on their death bed draining the family's life saving being selfish when they commit suicide or are they saving their family? In the case here with Mark, a long drawn out legal fight might've left his family homeless. Having eliminated that possibility was he being selfish? Did he have a wife? Were they on good terms or bad? Is she relieved or sad that he's gone? Like I said, we just don't know the whole story.

I totally agree with the first part, with exception.  He was as a** on TV.  So I don't care. And I didn't know him so its of no consequence to me.
However, that's not the real person as far as I know.  I'm not going to judge someone I've never met.
I still have empathy for his loved ones and his troubles that led him to feel suicide was the best option.

As far as suicide, its a persons own choice.  Doesn't make a person a coward.  In fact it takes a lot to take your own life.

People blame the person comitting suicide and call them a coward to shift guilt and blame off themselves.
If the person was so close to you and you cared so much.....where were you when they needed help the most?    And if you didn't know them, your in no position to judge.

Speaking from personal experience and ill never forgive myself when looking back I could have done so much more for my friend of 25 years.  His suicide wasn't on him at all.  It's on all of us, his friends and family.  I own that.  Shifting blame and anger over it by calling him a coward doesn't help me heal or grow or become a better person or friend.  And certainly doesn't honor his memory.

I think Alias had a very thoughtful reply in #13 above.

Perhaps you had to have known someone who committed suicide to have an appreciation of what it might have been like for them.

MANY years ago I had a high school friend who took his life. This was at a time when it was not as prevalent as it is today with some teens who are bullied at school to the point where they can't take it anymore.

We subsequently found out that he was gay at a time MANY years before gay rights came around, and apparently his father's attitude toward his son prompted our friend to opt out of life all together.

None of us (that I know of) knew he was gay and I doubt it would have made any difference if we had. He was a nice guy and fun to be around.

Travis: if you have ANY thoughts regarding the post I have just made, please keep them to yourself whatever they are and on whichever side of the issue of suicide.

If you don't want to have something you post addressed, then you shouldn't post it. This is a publicly accessed forum and replying to each other is what is done here.

My only thought on the post you just made was "it sure is nice to see that you have a softer side."

I'm just not going to lose any sleep over some convicted drug dealer taking his own life.

Sure Mark was facing some jail time but why kill yourself over 6 months in the county jail? 25 years to life, I can understand that. Was he maybe facing his 3rd strike?

If you don't want to have something you post addressed, then you shouldn't post it. This is a publicly accessed forum and replying to each other is what is done here.

When I posted about my friend who had committed suicide and then asked you to keep any thoughts about my post to yourself I had two thoughts about the way you might respond to it.

1) was the way you did respond.
2) was with a smart aleck remark aimed at my friend being gay and/or having committed suicide.

The first one strikes the right note in that posting and replying is what the forum is about, however there are exceptions that occur. It has been seen more than once that if a post doesn't meet your approval (for whatever reasons, logical or not) it gets deleted. I have even seen other peoples posts that you have edited. I saw them both before and after the edits and couldn't comprehend why the editing took place.

The second reason I cited just above came as a result of having seen over the last two years your comments about both blacks and gays which were "cloaked" in "humor". Quite often you say "just kidding" at the end of your statements. There is a fairly prevalent thought that when someone says something there is at least a "degree" of actual intent contained no matter what "just kidding" kind of statement might be attached.

If there is one Constitutional amendment I admire it is that of free speech, but I do realize that gatekeepers tamper with it on a regular basis in all kinds of media. Doesn't mean I have to sanction it.

My request that you not comment on my gay friend's suicide was aimed at not having a stranger make any kind of disparaging remark either about suicide or sexual proclivity, but your response gave me an opportunity to speak in a broader sense, and for that, well, thanks!

You're starting to sound like Jodi Arias's attorney the way you're twisting things out of proportion. What's next MovieMan, are you going to start telling people that I kick puppies too?

I only delete things that are disruptive to the forum. I have only deleted a hand full of posts in the past 4 months, most of which were spam, posted in the wrong category, disruptive, sexually provocative or contained inappropriate language.

I have never said anything negative about black or gay people and it really bothers me that you would even suggest that.

If you did kick puppies, yes, I would tell people that. [/b]

And of course that is a matter of opinion and each and everyone of us is entitled to an opinion. Most of us just can't do anything about it.

No, you have never called someone a N***** or a F******, but your innuendo cloaked in humor (imo) is there and even other members here have commented on it in the past.

Just as teachers, law enforcement, religious figures and others are expected to answer to a higher standard than "Joe Six-pack" one might expect that a figurehead of any organization would be called upon to do the same. Of course I could be wrong about that; I have been wrong before.

You must be confused and taking something you read out of context.

I've been called worse...LOL   Just for the record, I don't actually kick puppies. I know that there are some people out there who don't understand sarcasm, so I just wanted to be clear before someone emails me saying "that's so mean, how could you do that to those sweet little animals."

Besides, the puppy kicker is an essential part of the team.  ;D
