Ironman from Marietta Ga. says Hello to all!!!

Hello evryone. Isn't this  agreat site? hope it grows a lot more. I've been selectivly buying and selling pieces, collectibles etc etc for a while as a sideline hobby more or less. Now I find myself at 57.5 working for a company that looks like it will be closing in 3 to 6 months and asking myself, what do you want to do with the rest of your life. The corporate rat race is not the answer, been there done that. So, Ive decided to try my hand at storage auctions, picking, etc etc and see where it may lead while I still have a good job. The ultimate goal would be to do this full time for a living if it is possible to make a living at it. Is it? Not looking to get rich just to do what I enjoy and pay the bills. Any advice will be appreciated and I look forward to chatting with everyone as I learn the ropes. Here's to a prosperous new year for us all!!!!  ;D

Thanks, I'm certain I'll learn a lot. I'm planning on calling several storage places this week and find an auction or two that I can go attend and observe. I also plan on subscribing to the newsletter and see how many of these auctions actually exist in the ATL area.

Hey Ironman, I am about 15 minutes from Marietta in Dallas, GA and I subscribed to the newsletter. It looks like there are PLENTY of auctions within 30 minutes from ther Marietta area. I am new to this too and can't wait to get started. See you around at some auctions!

Welcome aboard YG.  I went to a couple auctions today. Didn't pick up anything. First unit was closet sized 5x5? and full of real trash. Bad stuff. Bags full of literal trash and ratty old stained seats. Busted up computers.... Even the pro's walked away when he door went up. It was real bad. Auctioneer couldn't even get a starting $10 bid so he went to $1 the unit finally sold for $7. Everyone thought this was a dump fee paradise only...   Second unit was better, looked like someone had a chop shop and took old van seats out and stored them. A huge window AC unit looked 30 years old a few tools and not much else. The pros bid on it up to 150/200 then started walking away. Someone ended up with it for 305. All in all nothing good.
