Auctions in bad weather?

Auctions in bad weather?
« on: April 19, 2011, 04:09:17 PM »
Supposed to attend an auction tomorrow, and they are calling for severe thunderstorms.
Has anyone found days like that, to be better than nice days, with smaller turn outs & competition?
Hoping for a good buy or two tomorrow! It's been 1 1/2 weeks since our last sale. I'm fired up!!! ;D

It's been my experience that bad weather brings out just as many people (more or less) as normal weather.
Everyone thinks that everyone else will stay home. So, they all show up.  Sure, there will be SOME who won't go, but the hard-core or the newbie who thinks weather is a detractor will show up anyway.

What I HAVE seen though is when some new person buys a big locker on a nice 100+ day that they sometimes back down in future summer auctions after they've been working in the stifling heat of an enclosed locker for a couple of days.

Movieman that holds very true here in our 100+ days we have here in the Valley, get inside a locker with little or no air movement and that heat intensifies doesn't it?

I have to agree. A lot of people think that nobody will show up on days like this but it is actually brings more people out. Quite a few of the bidders that pop in and out a few times per week are contractors or other people who work outdoors. Most of the time there is no work on rainy days so they go to the auctions instead.

It never surprises me how many idiots don't bring umbrellas.

I've got a couple behind the seat of my truck I have found in lockers.  They are kind of a pain though........everybody is crowding in trying to see the locker, and one guy with an umbrella is poking everybody else as he tries to get his look, and two guys with umbrellas go in at the same time and run into each other and smack others in the head.  It can be comical!
