Won my first auction, looking for advice

Hey everybody! So I won my first auction a few days ago, and I think I've caught the bug (time will tell I guess). I wanted to ask: what are items that I should look for in a storage auction? What are things that will always sell? No joke responses please (e.g. look out for diamonds encased in emeralds...) Thanks!

your quickest sellers will be things people need every day. appliances tools etc. clothing is crap unless is in good condition and name brand. other than that look for anything odd or valuable looking. watches jewelry etc. it's pretty much common sense. After you start selling stuff you'll get more of a feel for it.

I prefer high quality furniture an appliances - things I know sell quick like washer and dryers, glass top dining sets, dressers and chests. Bakerben is right. Once you've been doing it a while, you'll get a feel for what sell well in your area.

What about electronics? I saw a unit online that was filled w/ hard drives and computer screens. All the stuff looks pretty modern (but it's tough to pinpoint the exact year). The unit is filled with all this stuff, but will it sell?

i consider anything electronic 0 dollars unless i can specifically see that it is high grade( like an xbox 1 or ps4, great speakers etc). monitors even if working arent expensive anymore an electronics in general will be dated when pulling it froma unit. Thats just in my experience. I'm not saying dont bid on lockers with electronics, im justsaying dont bid too much

Got this out of a unit ... so I would say you should look out for emeralds encased in diamonds!

nope ... thankfully.  going up for auction next month as well.  emeralds not the best quality so only expect $2k on it.

I have to disagree with the statement "clothing unless name brand or new is crap". If you are purchasing multiple units save all kids clothes and jeans unless ripped or stained kid clothing sells well especially when put into lots of matching size. Jeans if you have a large group im talking a couple of hundred "which happens quickly if your buying units" can be sold in bulk on craigslist someone will quickly give you $1 each sold in bulk. You will find many items you are throwing away can be sold you just have to find how and where. An example would be broken watches that have gears can be sold for parts I get .50 cents each from jewelry makers, doesn't sound like much but in a year i end up with close to a buckets worth. $$$$$$$ its all about the turnover....

yah i undertand what you're saying and I don't throw any of that stuff away. But when a new guy asks about things like that I don't want him bidding on a unit because he sees a bunch of faded glory t-shirts or something You can make money on clothes but It's never the reason I buy a unit.

Yes i agree never a reason just to buy a unit just throwing it out there to a newbie because that was one of my biggest mistakes when I first started.

I always had good luck selling clothes at my garage sales. What didn't sell for .50-$2.00, I resold by the trash bag to clothing resellers.
