Title: Seattle
Post by: drbecker on December 13, 2010, 12:00:27 PM
So I missed the auctions last month cause I was deer hunting but I hear the number of bidders is way up and the prices are nuts.  I figured the reality TV shows would mess things up for a while untill the newbies dicover it is not as easy as they make it look on TV.  Any reports on what it is been like in the area?  I plan on doing auctions on 22 and 23 Dec hoping the close proximity to Christmas will supress the number of bidders some.   If that does not work mayber then after Christmas the 27th throught eh 29th.  Last year just before Christmass the bidding was much more reasonable then in November or in January.

You didn't miss much.....prices were high and there were WAY too many bidders.  It was taking 10 minutes just for everybody to get a look inside most of the units.
Hopefully some of these new guys are fast learners and they quickly discover that they didn't make enough on that overpriced unit to pay off the credit card they just bought it with!
Hard to say if the auctions later this month will be better or not......a lot of television watchers out there now with "buck fever"!  It will probably be at least 3-4 months before enough of them lose all their money and figure out it's not all Gold and Guns and Glamor!

I have been doing auctions off and on for over 10 years, When I started it was easy to get units for under $100 that looked good and $1 units were common. Now it seems a trashed out unit will go for over $100 and anything decent around $1000.  I expect this series of unreality shows will drive prices up and they will settle back lower but not as low as before.  Will just see what happens but I know it is getting harder and harder to make money off of lockers consistantly.  I enjoy and do not have to do it to survive but it will make it tough on those who do it for a living.
