haha! I don't know about "unknown" but I regularly picked from thrift stores, yard sales, and estate sales. Pretty much anywhere that sells things is a good place to pick, especially if you have a keen eye and a smart phone with access to eBay sold listings and worthpoint (which was hit or miss on some items).

Often, I would try to buy items at the swap meet from other storage auction buyers, but they all knew me and would hike the prices if I asked about something.
