When I first got into the buisness, I learned the hard way several times about properly tying something down. Unlike most of the posters here, I emphasize delivery on all my craigslist posts. I really feel like this has increased my sales, and puts me far ahead of others who wont offer any kind of delivery. In fact me delivering an item a person has only seen in craigslist pictures is a regular thing for me. So far (100+ deliverys i'd estimate) it has not back fired. But I also make sure my pictures are spot on, and make sure the person is extremely sure this is what they want.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #2...February, 2013

Went to two seperate 'auctions' on Tuesday. First one had two units, one being a "proceeds going to charity" situation. 7 people total, only 4 actual bidders. The rest were partners of the bidders. I bought the first unit for $30 bucks, a pretty good buy with an awesome coffee/end table set, some busted tires - although attached to nice rims and some baby items. The charity locker was pretty bad, with 3-4 trash bags full of clothes/shoes, two golf bags full of golf clubs and a few cheap paintball guns. This one sold for $40 bucks, after I bid the guy up a little.

The second 'auction' was a weird affair. Basically you could go in the office from 8-4 and they had pictures taken of each locker from the door (around 10 total). You would then write your bid along with the unit number on a piece of paper. They would call the next day if you won. When I left I felt like I could of won them all, but the next day I never received a phone call.

I have an auction on Saturday. This one is in my home city, where prices have been very high for a long time. But it is also supposed to rain hard. So I'll report back then.

Same as Movieman, I sell the bibles/cds/pictures etc. Even the black jesus stuff sells eventually. Theres just something that doesnt feel right about throwing a bible away, but I can live with selling it.  ;)

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Health Care Items
« on: February 08, 2013, 03:04:24 PM »
I was a novice in this field until very recently. Paid $100 bucks for a 'medical locker' honestly it looked like someone had died and they stuck their hospital room in this locker. Beyond the 20 or so boxes filled with pills and the random extras (CD Players/trash cans/cleaning supplies), there were three extra sized wheelchairs, a hospital bed, an Arjo Hoist lift type machine. Heres how the selling broke down:

Wheelchairs: $40-50 bucks each, they were very nice in great shape and sold fairly quickly. (All three in a weeks time)
Hospital Bed: Sold for $350 bucks! It was electric, had head/foot and a brand new in the box mattress topper. Sold extremely slowly. No calls/texts after two or three weeks of being on craigslist, but the one guy that did call bought it.
Hoist Lift: Still in the process of trying to sell. These things are extremely expensive, I have mine listed on craigslist for $500 - but not a single call/text after two or three weeks.

I was nervous when I bought it, but you cant argue with the profit. The high end health care items you will sit on for a while, but can be a nice pay off when you do find a buyer.

What did you expect Movieman? Of course there is an obvious connection between the forums drop off and the new head honcho.

Storage Facilities / Re: No children at storage auctions?

No rules about kids here, but we have a few guys who like to bring their dogs (small ones). I heard this morning one of the local runs started putting a "No Pets" line in the ad.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: How much time to clean out a locker ?

They are pretty lax here, most of us can get up to a week. More so if it is slam full.

If your willing to pay to play, then storageunitauctionlist.com is your best resource. Otherwise stick to your regions newspapers, and scan them every day.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Cost of units in your area?

Cheap here if you know the ones to go to, I just bought 4 units for a total of $117. Lots of boxes in some, heavy furniture in others. But all good deals.

Flea Markets / Re: Stole Goods at swap meets <question>
« on: May 24, 2012, 10:53:20 AM »
I sometimes sell at the flea market local to me, and while there are a lot of good people who sell, there is a lot of shady activity going on as well. You'll see people walk up to vendors with bags of merchandise, brand new lysol/smell good products, bed sheets, games etc. You almost know the stuff is being stolen. Theres even still a guy who sells bootleg movies, he just carrys a notebook around and will only show you if your a repeat customer/knows he can 'trust' you.

However I am so focused on making my own money, I could care less about any of it.

Heh, when I first started doing yardsales, some stray cat had her babies behind the shed of my house. There were three total, I put them in a box marked $5 each and sold every one by the days end.

Been awhile since I've reported here, would like to get back in the habit -  ;D

My most recent purchase was also my biggest in terms of size and items - 10 x 40 packed full, it was a baby store that had closed down with some personal items in the back. Tons of clothes/strollers/car seats/cribs - and alot of buisness type items like shelving, water dispenser, fold up tables. I paid $200 for it, and paid so cheaply because all the other regs focused on the parts side of things. (And there were a TON of parts, a type of locker where you dont want to throw anything away until you've been through it all). I bought this locker about a week ago, and am in $350 pure profit with two sheds full of items still to sell.

Hope everyone else has been enjoying similar success.

Man wish I had that problem. I am up to buying 2-3 lockers a week now, my issue has been selling yardsale/flea market type items. I have a shed full and hold yard sales every week, but I am seriously worried about my space situation with the constent flow of furniture I have coming in too.
