Craigslist / Re: Are CL buyers really nuts or what?
« on: February 20, 2012, 09:04:44 PM »
I always liked the saying 'the best buyer is the one right in front of you'. I'll only have 1-2 hits on an item, but alot of times that person will come through to buy it.

I just looked at this site again, we had a write up about it in the local paper. I'm bidding on some office chairs the school system is getting rid of. They are pretty neat/cheap, hope I get them.

I guess it just gets down to initial excitement about an item with NO THOUGHT put in to the reality of getting it.

You nailed it. I have this happen alot, one of the main draws to my ad is offering delivery for a fee. Alot of times out of towners will call, and the charge of delivery will equal the original cost of the item! I havent sold CL items out of town yet.

The last 2-3 days I have killed craigslist, selling things like washing machines, dressers, house speakers, HDMI cords, vanitys etc. All hail tax season!

Good luck money, I just went through my own adventure selling china. 30 Piece set, new in box (Sold on ebay for $160, which I was happy with). Wasnt as pretty as yours, and for some reason I think yours could be worth a good bit.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: How far are you willing to travel?

Wow have I been busy! Went to the Saturday auction in Sanford, 50 miles away. Crowd was about the same as Fayetteville, but prices far lower. I pick up two locks for $475, $225 and $250. These would have been $500 lockers easy in my town. Good returns so far to include; Bedroom suite, Bombay Company stand, washing machine, slew of collectables, pool sticks, fishing poles, car speakers etc... All the usual goodies one finds in a half-decent locker.

I hope this encourages others to travel in search of cheaper prices.

I was surprised how much stuff was being sold in my area. At the end of things though, prices seemed to be on the high side.

I have been a fair distance (30) miles away, in the hopes of a lesser crowd. Different faces but about the same number of people. This Saturday will be my first experience traveling far (an hour out). Its worth the cost of gas if units go for a lot cheaper, but you never really know until you put yourself out there.

If this thread is still going i'll report what happens.

I am a county next to you in Cumberland (Fayetteville). I cant speak about lockers from Moore, but I would imagine they're pretty nice units being around all those golfing/country club towns.

PS: Dont think about coming down here slick. We will eat you ALIVE.

Picker's Paradise / Re: Craigslist email etiquette ????

Honestly, I always include my phone number in my craigs ad. Yes, I do get the occasional spam texts, have never recieved a junk call though. Skipping the whole e-mail proccess really saves time, and attracts serious buyers if they are willing to text/call on an item.

Been a while for me, just hit my first auction of the new year today. 2 Lockers, 15 people total. First locker went for cheap, pretty nice clock showing, winner jumped the bid from $100 to $200 and scared everyone off. Later on I talked to the guy again, he said after getting the clock checked out it was a legit piece, should pay for the unit.

I liked his bidding strategy, but I think it would leave me wondering if I could of gotten it cheaper. I'll admit it, I'm the type to bleed the bid out in $5-10 increments  :P.

What's it Worth?? / Ontario Wood Duck Print
« on: January 12, 2012, 10:53:27 PM »
The storage auction dry period continues here in Fayettenam, but it has given me time to fine comb my inventory for things I never get around to sell. I came across this piece, and have not been able to find any information after scouring online, much less a value. Here's what I know:

The artist is Bob Berry, a decoy carver. These are drawings from which they were carved. There's a nice write-up about the artist / art of decoy carving / the subject matter (wood duck) on the back. The main information that stands out in the write up is "North American Duck Collection - Created by Artist Bob Berry" - Gallery Originals.

I would appreciate any information, thanks.

Craigslist / Re: Selling rims/tires <advice needed>
« on: January 12, 2012, 10:37:52 PM »
I would just keep up your craigslist ad, and get as much word of mouth going as possible. Also paying to list in a newspaper would reach a different spectrum of people. I dont have much experience selling tires, sold a used set of 15''s for 120. I felt like we both got a good deal.

I think from now on I'm going to make a glorious effort to stay away from any auctions listed on auctionzip.

Yea auctionzip is a crowd enducer, we had one on the last day of December that was listed on auctionzip, 15 lockers, 120+ people. I left after the first 5 lockers, which took about 2 hours.  We were lined up like herds of cattle. Moooooooooooooooo
