Really? I going to 6 a week and prices are great! Best time of the year to buy due to small crowds And people not spending.

I mean actual auctions being held. Nothing from December 20th-29th here, but then we pick up with 4-5 in 2 days. Not sure how it is everywhere else, but 9 days is a long time between auctions!

Same to you and everyone else.

Dont get me wrong, I'm excited as heck about christmas, but its a dead zone for storage auctions  :P

Storage Auctioneers / Re: A Bidder as an Auctioneer
« on: December 17, 2011, 04:04:23 PM »
I dont see anything wrong with that, my problem would rest with an auctioneer bidding at his OWN auction, which most of the time that will be said in the legal print but rarely happens.

The one time I've seen it, the guy actually owned the storage facility itself, which made the whole thing crooked as a snake. He was playing with his own money both ways.

I openly tell anyone who asks, and often invite them to come and the info of looking in the classifieds for sale dates. So far I have not seen a single recognizable face.

Three auctions at one time yesterday, so crowds were pretty thin. Locker prices were good across the board, and out of 11 lockers 3 or 4 came up empty. Pretty rare to see an empty locker in this area.

I bought a locker today, my first since the computer monitors. Paid $55, first thing I did was take all the scrap metal out of it (old ass PC towers, old bikes, trashy baby stuff) and took it to the yard. Made $50 so I'm pretty much in the clear already...went back and hand picked a few things, found a 30 pc brand new-in box china set. I'm pretty excited about it but have had a hard time finding any info on it...I will prolly end up making a thread in the 'whats it worth?'. Got a huge Scotty Pippin poster, and a few Bahamas dollars.

Nice Yogi Berra reference. Use his wisdom to guide you in the storage auction world.

Went to an auction out in the country today, 4 units, 4 people showed including myself, all regs. When I walked in the office had 5 or 6 of those sweepstakes slot machines, thought that was pretty odd. As soon as the others get there, they start to tell me about the owner/auctioneer. Last time he had one, he bought all the units himself.

He turns out to be an old man in a power wheelchair, and sure enough he buys all the units again. It got to the point where during the last couple, we would just ask him what he was going to take/start it at. Was very shady indeed, and all the others talked about when it ended was how he could 'buy' it for 700, but it is his money either way.

A couple of the units were nice, some heavy wood cutting equipment. But he wouldnt start for less than 700 on either. The whole thing has got me searching google for the proccess of reporting this to someone.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Went to an auctionzip auction today

In my area there is really only one auctioneer that lists on auctionzip, although he does 3 or 4 different facilities a month. It always brings more people from out of town. Its a double edged sword cause he's also my favorite auctioneer!

I like auction scene, its more 'general' and not locking it down to nubs at the auction.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Scrap metal - is it worth it?
« on: November 30, 2011, 09:26:07 PM »
Wow what a blast from the past! Oh how my opinions have changed. Now my yard does look like crap, but my pockets have also gotten fat! Scrap metal goes hand in hand with storage auctions, with all the various metal crap your bound to get.

I actually just scrapped my second car today, an 89 lincoln - got $500 bucks. The engine was shot but it was still painful seeing that heavy machinary toss it around.

Today saw cloudy skys, cold wind, cold temps, and back to a decent size crowd.  Instead of the 100 people we had saturday we only had maybe a dozen people.  Half of them were regulars.  This was a 2 facility auction, but could only hit the first facility before heading back to work.  Units were nothing great.

1st - $10 (me) - musical keyboard, box, small musical keyboard, original nintendo, few other odds/ends
2nd - $230 (regular) - small bedroom set (bed, dresser, night stand)
3rd - $5 (me) - empty backpack, 2 blankets, and a small dorm fridge.  If it don't work no big loss.
4th - $100 (regular) - a 10x10 with kids bed, lots of scattered cloths.  Guy opened with 100 but could of prob gotten it for $50
5th - no takers - was a chair, 2 baskets, and cloths, odd shoe, purse on the floor.  I may give them the $5 they want for the 2 baskets and just to see if anything was left behind.  Isn't much to really clean up - maybe a garbage bag full of cloths.

Trying to decide if want to skip the 2 auctions on wednesday to do a metal run or attend them.  Only a few units for sale so may not bother.  Next week is my big week.  3 facility caravan on the 5th and 7 facility caravan on the 8th.

Sounds like some good locker prices. I have one tomorrow way out in the country, 3 units. Hoping for a small crowd. I found it through a list service... the ones where you can see the 'general location' but dont get the address until you pay. It was so rural and unique it has me considering to pay. ($20 a month)

You think that's bad....I haven't mentioned the "newbie" who asked if I would help him clean out a locker. I nearly broke my back falling down with laughter !

Couldnt help but laugh from that. About a month ago I bought a locker, was pretty crappy over-all. Another regular had bought one too, and he came over and asked me to help him move the furniture pieces out (pretty old fellow). I ended up making more from the stuff he gave me from helping than I did from my own locker.  :P

Still, thats the kind of stuff 'regulars' do for each other, but a complete noob? Fat chance buddy!
