What's it Worth?? / Re: Fine art~just how do you move it?

This is a good thread and I hope you find the answers you seek.

Art is always a tough sell for myself/area. Every piece I have ever had, I havent gotten anywhere close to true value.

I have never done so or re-searched how paintings do on there, but have you thought about ebay?

Ebay is a tough cookie, the fees really do add up. Its gold for the hard-to-sell-locally collectibles, and clothes, but its only worth listing on there if you can make $15 or more in pure profit (counting the fees) vs selling it to dick and harry on the street.

Compared to the posters so far though I have a 'bleeding' style with lockers. I love the fact of making money still from **** I bought 6 months ago.

So far it has been pretty profitable, but not without time and hard work. Me and my father took apart 15-20 monitors today, going for the metal casing, (boards, which we threw in with the other scrap metal, and no one at the yard said anything, but it IS a little iffy), copper, and the degaussing cords. Also the actual cords that connect to the CPU.

Our results: $140.

We worked non stop for 2-3 hours, and my backyard looks like a computer grave-yard. There's 50+ monitors still waiting to be taken apart, and I also havent disposed of the black glass and plastic casings. Hoping to find a recycling company that will take it.

Hey, easy with the rips on the auctioneer, he's the best thing about that show! It has gotten worse with the new season, like the literal quality of it. The cameras and cheesy scripts. I feel like I'm watching a B movie.

I am a huge cowboy fan, good call on Murray. Things change so fast in the NFL, doesnt seem long ago when all the rave with the cowboys was the three headed monster of Barber, Jones, and Choice.

But as far as the selling side of it, yea thats a pretty nice profit margin!

Yea looks like you guys were working in a mine shaft. Dont worry about 'bombing out', once you get enough experience its becomes less of a chance and more of a skill game.

That plate looks so cool I decided to use my 100th post commenting on it! Good luck with it, is that a COA beside it in one of the pics?

PS: Is your screen name a play off the movie 'Win a date with Tad Hamilton' or is that just your name?

Went to two auctions today, first one had a unit got for 1.3 G, my highest seen in person. Wasnt all that impressed with it either. Second location I got a unit for $1. I am the proud owner of 100+ shrink wrapped gateway old-style computer monitors.

Not sure what I was thinking, I feel in a little over my head after just purchasing a pretty big locker tuesday.

My 'hope' is to leave them in the unit and sell them out of that, maybe to someone who will scrap them out for copper/cords etc.

Sometimes get a few funny looks being a white guy selling what people think of as "black person items" but who cares.  Money is money and it all can sell.

I certainly agree, I do it all the time. GREEN IS THE ONLY COLOR I CARE ABOUT.

Just went completely through the teacher locker, man am I tired. Its currently 6 AM my time and I've been going since 11 PM. This locker is going to hinge on glass ware. I have a few complete sets of plates, this lady loved fruit designs. Couple of nice coats and suits, a little iffy on what to expect there. Oddly enough for her being a teacher, I only have one tote compiled of teacher stuff, but it is alot of nice borders and supplies, alot of elementary work books that are pretty much brand new.

Unfortunatly there is also alot of cheap spray-painted ceramics. And TONS of trophys/plaques, that I hope to turn in as scrap metal ???.

Anyways, heres a pic of it all.

PS: If anyone needs black jesus merchandise, I could open a store that sells just that. So uh...let me know.  :P

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: What are the ages of the people here?
« on: November 16, 2011, 11:32:18 AM »
I am most likely the youngest 'serious buyer' here, as I always am at my local auction scene. Its rare to see because most young people dont have the means to do it like myself; transportation (a truck), seed money (full time job), or a place to store it (the house I rent has a storage shed on property).

I am 20 years old. Good luck to ya.
