Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Lookey Loos Part 11.....November, 2011

Went to a four facility auction today, the last only having one unit to sell, which also happened to be the one I got. Paid $175, the most I ever have for a locker. Boxes stacked high and tight, brought 3 or 4 home to look through.. iffy returns so far, but there is a music keyboard!

It was professionally packed, and local manager said she was a teacher. I seem to remember a post on here about someone as well getting a teachers locker. Anyways, first couple boxes have been cheap ceramics, but there is a set of glass bells that look interesting.

Keep ya posted.

Update: The keyboard works, it is a Concertmate 680, hope to get $40 off craigs. Also found a Lenox Wedding Plate, new in box, should be $60-$75. Its exciting finding stuff like that, I feel some what anxious for having "so much" invested into this locker. But if the first few boxes are like the rest, I should certainly see a nice profit.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Research research research

So word of advice to other noobs from an older noob.  Take the time to research each item that you find and don't know much about.  Even if you think it is only a $1 item you may be surprised.

Clothes is the best example of this, great way to pull every last penny out of a locker.

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: 500K in Pirate treasure

Even though this is not good for anyone who buys lockers to make a living, dont stories like this make the hunt all that more enticing?

Something similar to people playing the lottery. The few that win keep the rest of'em buying!

I've been thinking of writing an e-book and pedaling it on ebay, but can I provide enough information that isnt common sense? Much less a 4 1/2 hour video.

Storage Facilities / Re: Are all the storage companys starting

Eh if people werent going to use their CC on storage auctions, it would be something else. Dont think storage facilitys accepting it will be the cause for ruining lives.

Anyways I appreciate the ones that take debit etc...saves a trip to the atm/bank.

At first glance no, the golf bag looks nice though.

Surprised no one mentioned the guys donating the Jaws of Life machine. Unlike most of the posters here, I really like/enjoy all three of the shows. Although Storage Hunters is cheesy as hell, the auctioneer is hilarious. My balls itch! New episodes must be starting Tuesday!

Went to a 6 unit auction today, started as 22 and slowly made its way down. First for me in many ways:

1. Locks were actually cut off with a small power tool. (No other facility in my town does this, along with the other things on this list.)
2. Pictures were taken before and after the door was opened.
3. Buyers Premium

Prices were high and so was I. Left with nada, but that wasnt exactly a bad thing.

PS: Sounds like a good locker MovieMan, congrats.

What's it Worth?? / Re: 'Made in Italy' Glassware

I decided not to pursue its monetary value, which my heart tells me can not be more than $50. It sits on top of my fridge, next to some other "cool" things like a statue of a gargoyle and a 1983 un-opened Harley Davidson Beer.

Its weird because I'm the type of guy who RARELY keeps anything from a locker, but I really liked this piece. The blue moon bottle has made it through three yard sales without a single inquiry of price. (Which would be a dollar by the way!)  :P

eBay / Re: International Selling/Shipping
« on: November 07, 2011, 10:52:46 AM »

I had two bad experiences with Canada and that was it for me.

On the other hand a lot of things won't sell first or even 2nd time out, but a third or fourth listing might go (or not). Martin Luther King clock?

Ended up selling the clock for 5 bucks at a yard sale. I guess people dont look to the King to tell time quite like they used to. However, I do agree with the re-posting, recently had this happen with a Bee-Gees Lunchbox. I listed it 5 or 6 times, with the last one resulting in a sell.

I think the amount of watchers an item has is a good indication of interest, but its hard to say since I currently have bids with no watchers, and items with 5-6 watchers and no bids!

eBay / Re: International Selling/Shipping

I re-listed my mirrors as a 10 day international sale, seems like antiques would be a certain kind of item that would benefit from the exposure. Considering I got 0 bids when I listed it in US only, up is the only way to go.  ;)

Thats a really nice vanity, I see $$$ in your future.

eBay / International Selling/Shipping
« on: November 06, 2011, 04:19:39 PM »
I recently recieved a message from someone in Holland, wanting to buy the mirror set I posted about on here a few days ago. Ive strickly sold to US residents, was wondering if anyone has any experience with international selling. Or to break it down another way:

1. Did you see an increase in sells when you went international?
2. Is there a 'guideline' rate I can charge when shipping international? Obviously like everything else, it will depend on box size and weight.

21-50 here. At one time I thought I'd write about every locker, but not all of them have been worth doing so.  :P
