We are very lcuky here with TVs.  Goodwill has a deal with the county.  Goodwill takes them working or not and the county pays them like $5 each.  Of course it is covered by a tax on electronic goods but I have gotten rid of dozens of TVs that way. I no longer even try to see if they work unless it is an LCD or Plasma it is scrapped that means the easy to remove copper is removed then it goes right to goodwill.

+1 for that!  The only problem I have found with that is they only let you take a maximum of 5 computers and tvs at a time, and I've showed up more than once with 8-10!  They give me some crap usually about how the limit is five, and I tell them I can drive around the block and come back if it will make them feel better, and they always end up taking them.  I give them a lot of other stuff too, so they really make out on this program!

LMAO! ;D

One of the funniest things I've heard said by a noobie so far as we were all looking in the door:

"WOW!, this one has a MICROWAVE in it!!!"

I do it quite a bit.  I've partnered up with five different people over the last couple of years, and there was only one that I regretted.  He didn't want to work very hard and I was doing most of the hauling, listing, and selling, and he just wanted to work it from about 10 am until 2 or 3 pm!  I was doing 90% of the work for half the money, and that didn't last long!

However, I have another guy I partner up with frequently.  We were competitors at auctions, and we were constantly bidding each other up on units.  We both liked the same kind of units, and it was easier (and more profitable!) for us to work together instead of constantly butting heads.  I trust his judgement now, and if we have a day where there are multiple auction runs, we'll split up and potentially split some units.  We don't do it on every one, and we still both buy a lot of units on our own, but we do have an arrangement that works for us.

Aston Martin Lagonda!  They just sold this a little over a month ago.  Only went a little over 10 grand, and it ended up running like a champ!  The guys that bought it will make a bunch of money on that!

I'd like to have Dave's money, Barry's car, and Jarrods wife!  LOL.  I like Darrel the best though.

If you got the forerunner or cherokee, you could always pick up a cheap 5x10 landscape trailer off CL and haul a lot more stuff.   That's what I started with, and it worked well for a few years until I finally stepped up to the bigger covered trailer.

I just got a nice Ralph Lauren shirt in my size the other day.  I also got a case of Costco Kirkland brand toilet paper.   I get tons of detergent, softener, furniture polish, carpet cleaners, car waxes, etc.  One of the lockers I bought last Wednesday has a nice dark wood 8 drawer dresser and queen size bed combo that is going in my bedroom this week.  My wife saw it and said she'd kick me in the butt if I sold it!  Not long ago, got a nice stainless steel gas BBQ that I'm keeping.  Get artwork all the time.  Got a couple of LCD tv's in my house that came from storage units.  Tons of little hand tools and fasteners (screws, nails, glue, etc.) and all kinds of towels that I usually save for rags.  Plastic clothes hangers......buy enough units and you'll never need to buy another hanger again!

I have a Chevy Crew Cab truck and an enclosed 7x14 trailer, and I can get most lockers cleaned out in one trip if I stack it right.  I have actually been considering buying a minivan lately.  I spend $700-$900 each month just on gas!  I figure if I can find a decent minivan for the right price, I can get 10 mpg better than what I get now, I still get to sit up high (can't stand cars!), and I still have a decent covered space to move stuff with the rear seats pulled out.  Oh, and I get to save my truck for the big stuff and quit putting so many miles on it.  Been looking around CL for a van..........hoping to trade for some storage unit stuff!

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Medical Equipment

Wow, I have two of those myself!  So far, I haven't been able to do anything with them.  I put one of them up on eBay and they pulled the auction do to it being a "medical device" that I was not licensed to sell.  I have them just sitting in my shop.  I don't want to get rid of them because they must have some value to the right person.  They are very expensive new!

There is a little more to that story too.  I ended up buying five lockers that day.  I was in the office, and the owner of the facility was there, and he was all pissed off at the auctioneer when he found out there were bids and he didn't sell them!  I ended up talking to the owner when the auctioneer left, and he GAVE me the other four units on the condition I clean them all out.  It was well worth it!  Also, this same facility is having another auction in a week and a half, but this time, it will be a different auctioneer!

I've only ran across that one time.  The Auctioneer would not start any bidding below 25 bucks, and he shut the door on a number of units and did not sell them at all.  And the weird thing was, once he got a $25 bid on a locker, he would not sell it for the $25.00!  Unless he got one more bid over and above the $25, he shut the door on that unit too.  I think there were 11 units up that day, and he did not sell five.  I wanted this one locker, and another one of the bidders caught on and bid the $25, and then I won it for $30.  Then, a couple of lockers later, I returned the favor to him!  Weird auction!

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: What is the easiest item to sell ?

Gold!  You can sell it for melt value, or if you have something nice you can list it for more than melt and make a little extra.  NOTHING is easier to get rid of and make money on!

In the Seattle area, $100 is pretty much the standard deposit for facilities that collect them.  I bought two units yesterday at a place in Everett and they charged me one $100 deposit and tied it to both units, so I had to get both cleaned out before I would get my $100 back (which I did today).   I'd say it's split about 50/50 on facilities that charge a deposit and those that don't, but like Mr. Andersen said, if you don't clean out your unit, you aren't coming back!

Garage Sales / Re: Looking forward to the summer to have some garage sales

I was just talking about that with a friend today.  People are getting "cabin fever", and I can't wait for that first big spring sale!  I've got piles of stuff just waiting!

Sometimes it may seem like it's "game over", but I'm finding that if you attend enough auctions, there are still some deals to be had.  I'm still doing just fine and don't have any plans on getting out, but it's definitely not as easy as before the shows, that is a fact!
