Storage Facilities / Re: Why do storage companys charge tax
« on: December 16, 2011, 09:32:28 PM »
In FL they charge the sales tax on the unit sale price and the buyers premuim  :o
So you pay 17% more than you bid.  In GA I have not been charged any sales tax  ;D  It is by the state so you need to know before you start bidding  ;)

The do in FL.

I return Bibles with the personal items to the facility.  I trash porn, but have sold sexy clothes at flea market.  Pretty easy to tell that I did not wear them :D

I agree it would be a good addition.

A good smooth coat of paint drying is much better to watch than this show.  I can't wait to take some of the items from the units to an auction now.  People watching this might start bidding like they do at storage auctions on things I am selling ;D

Garage Sales / Re: $1.00 Yard Sale Dec. 2
« on: December 03, 2011, 08:27:43 PM »
Sold over $300 today.  One item was a clothes dryer for $100 out of a $155 unit so with the other items sold earlier that unit has made a profit  ;D  Sales from first unit I bought have topped $760 so it has doubled what I had in it  :o  Units 1,3,4 have all made it to the profit column and 2 would be except I let my son have a fridge.  Still have a trailer full of brand new bath room cabinets to sell, but I have a couple that plan to build a house looking at them  :)  So far so good in south GA ::)

Going to be part of a 5 family yard sale tomorrow beside 4 lane highway in a small town.  One of the guys owns the property and a few storage lockers at that location.  Hope to sell a lot of old inventory so prices are going to be low.  Now with the booth at Southern Pickers for nice things the Flea/Yard sales will be all low end items.  Not much per item, but a $ is a $ ;D

Stores / Re: Booth space versus full store - I bit the bullet
« on: November 28, 2011, 09:21:45 PM »
This post got me looking and I set up in a small booth @ Southern Pickers in Tifton on Black Friday.  Made enough to cover prorated Nov. and Dec. rent with some profit ;D  This gets me more $ for the nice items that are to small for CL and to low value to Ebay and ship.  Just hope it keeps working out like it has started.

The best money I have made so far came from a locker that the tenant name made me go to that auction.  ICAR Restoration LLC was the name I thought auto parts, tools, and such.  It had 2 commercial dehumidifiers, commercial carpet cleaner, 5 cases of desposable gloves, 2 carpet fans (only one worked), and more ???  Got it for $240 and had $60 in gas for it's share of the trip.  After paypal and ebay fees :-\ some other misc expense cleared over $1600 on the 2 commercial dehumidifiers, commercial carpet cleaner ;D  The legal notice having the name was worth a lot to me on that one even though it fool me I was there to buy it.

Flea Markets / Re: Black Friday Results??
« on: November 26, 2011, 06:17:08 PM »
Sold about $50 out of my booth at Southern Pickers in Tifton Friday :)  Spent the morning moving into the booth and afternoon helping a friend work on his house and then rode my bike.  Replenished my inventory this morning.

Flea Markets / Re: Is Black Friday a good day to sell at Flea Market?

I will not be going to the Flea Market Friday, but will be setting up booth at Southern Pickers in Tifton 8)  It is small and cheap $25 month and 15% per item sold.  I hope to get a better price this was on my nicer small items and showcase really nice furniture.  They sold a chair today for $15 that would have gotten $5 at the Flea Market ;D  That's my Friday plan along with modifications on the Sprinter van I bought Friday the 11 of Nov.

I have bought in FL and the 10% is added before sales tax is calculated.  Lots of complaining, but you have to pay.

A friend has been doing some buying helping a friend of his that was doing really well.  They started back in the 90s and I had been wanting to for years.  Earlier this year got my storage building set up and ready to start.  Then a friend calls me one night.  "Have you seen Storage Wars they are doing what you have been talking about for the past few years."  Decided it was time to get serious since I am expecting an insurance settlement and turned 55 wanting to retire.  This is how I plan to keep busy and make some playing money.  I really wish the TV showes would go off the air so things would get simplier and more profitable.

Might be "The Hunt for Red October" still have not found that super valuable item.  So far thankfully it has not been "The Sting"
