have youever seen as may neat lockers as is on Storage Hunters. The other shows do not show the real side of storage auction, but the two on Storage Hunters have yet to have to wipe dust off a box.   How unreal.. At least storage wars leaves some dust for show..lol

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Cable Boxes
« on: June 13, 2011, 06:46:41 AM »
Most boxes can be reset fromthe control room , its no problem for the cable company, they just delete the box number from whatever address it is assigned to and then reassign it to the new address where it is going.
I took two boxes back and they iddnt even say thankyou, these boxes cost between $400 to $2000 dollars,
I told the girl I would trash the next ones I found. She told me I couldnt do that that it was thier property. I told her you already got you maony for them , you did not even know I had those, so you willnever know know what I trash.  I cant believe they would not give a finders fee of at least $10 to $20..A plain box is $400, a dvr box over $600 and a HD/DVR can run as high as $2000 . I know my company runs  a small cable company.. now the big guys the boxes might not cost them that much, but payin $10 to get one back, would stillbe cheaper than a new one.
most companies now charge a deposit for the higher price box , or if you do run out with one, you will not get cable serive until you pay for the old box.

but mine go to the trash from now on.

The Lounge / Re: Went to Chicago Police Auction yesterday
« on: April 10, 2011, 07:13:19 AM »
I went to the Police auction here in Jackson ,tn, I stayed about 3 hours, I did not see one thing sell that I thought was a good buy, I know several things went for more than Walmart sells it for.. it was unreal.. The same for a court house sale of some rifles and shotguns, they went within $50 to $75 of the new price.. I dont waste my time even going to those anymore.

A storage locker owner at a regular merchandise auction was over heard saying he brought the good stuff out of his lockers to sell at auction, and the rest he left in the locker to auction off to the suckers that came to buy lockers. I know this is illegal but how would you prove it and who would you report it too?  This is in Tennessee.

If the law passes and online becomes the way to go, why does houston storage auctions site think they will be the only game in town. Websites are quick and easy to build.. Who would get the business... Houston said they will charge $9.99, what if I build a website and only charge $5.99?  Or does Houston have the lawmakers in his back pocket? You could end with just as many websites as there are newspapers to search.. so what would be really gained?  And if I am not paying for a locker, will I have a computer and internet service?

Stories about Storage Auctions / Worse locker ever
« on: March 02, 2011, 05:31:42 PM »
By worse, I mean the way the stuff was packed ,..

My son got a locker last week, I have been sorting it out for him, it was about 30 totes and 12-15 sacks of stuff..   he will break even and maybe make a little on this.. but I never seen a unit packed like this one.. the totes I mean.. The people must have had to move in a hurry and everyone went to one room with their own totes and starting filling it.. I had like 25 single shoes, no telling how many single socks.. toys galore, a piece in one tote , a piece in another and another.. I was trying to sort as I went.. but like this I had to  put pieces and parts everywhere to see if I could piece something together.. .. it s  good I had a few days off and nothing else to do..lol.. I am not new to this but if I had to do this everytime I would go back to golfing or fishing.. .IF  a newbie had gotten this locker. I am sure it wouldve been his last. There certainly was not a wow factor here.. but with hard work it will pay off.. and I cant help but wonder where all the matches for the shoes are.. lol. there were several nice womens shoes and several of the leather thigh high boots, I know shoes are  not a great seller but these would have been worth a few bucks as they were new or practically new.
This was work and double work.. I may have charge my son by the hour..lol

What's it Worth?? / 1921-1923 Buescher Saxophone

By the serial number  the sax is a 1921-1923, it is in pretty rough shape, it will need a good polish and reworked I am sure.. I am taking it to a couple music shops here in Jackson, but I dont hold much hope of getting any help from them. Anyone know a good place to take it for appraisal?  Memphis or Nashville will be ok, as I go to them a lot.

Any Suggestions will be appreciatted.
Thanks

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Question about a check
« on: February 19, 2011, 09:59:21 PM »
I think I did not make myself clear, the check was signed, and an amount entered, just the payeee was left blank.. I dont see how cashing it would be illegal, unethical yes,  and like was pointed out, more than likely the account would be closed, or no money there.
I will not even try to cash it, but just wondered if anyone would. But if I have to make another run to the dump  from the unit..I might be tempted..,..lol.
I am hoping the 1923 Saxophone in the unit will pay me back... I can hardly wait til Monday when I can have it appraised.
