Stories about Storage Auctions / Patient records ... Yeowza!!
« on: September 02, 2011, 10:05:19 PM »
Purchased a unit some days ago ... I knew it was an office of some sort, wasn't sure what. Really, it looked to be close to a hoarder type ... Against my better judgement (I dont do company units typically) ... I bid, won, and here I am digging through it.

Well -- Long story short -- Medical clinic. Typical roach office furniture. Lots of old computer equipment. And a whole wall, (10 x 20), of medical records, patient RX slips etc etc etc.

Come to find out, its basically a pill mill factory, located right next door to the storage facility.  I called them and told them of my ownership, they were not real concerned. Got the brush off, even when I made mention of the major HIPPA violations being that those records were in my possession.  I really hate dealing with former owners, 99% of the time those deals never work out.

So here I am getting ready to dumpster all this --- any thoughts on who to contact to 'drop the dime' on these pill pushing asshats for letting all these records out of their possession?

The Treasure Chest / Ace in the hole ...
« on: August 26, 2011, 09:14:56 PM »
Purchased a couple of units yesterday ... This particular unit, was a 10 x 10, pretty standard stuf, nothing special -- crowd drove the price up a bit, I ended it at $400, about $200 more than I really -wanted- to pay ... Ah well ... Having gone through it quickly, it looked as though I had lost $400.

Went back today to dig it out, load it up and move it on out. During the dig, I located some jewels which will offset the loss and put some profit into the pocket.  Not alot, but enough...

1 of the rings was located in the bottom of a box, exposed, under a pile of junk paperback books.  The other ring was located in a box full of a small childs misc. toy items (army men, cars, cards, action figures ... etc.)  The other assorted jewels (and costume jewels not shown here) were also scattered around.

Never let a box go (or bag) without throughly checking it out -- You may overlook that ace in the hole that either makes it or breaks it for you, as it was in this particular case.

Happy Hunting!

The Treasure Chest / Re: Safes and what they contain
« on: August 26, 2011, 09:07:37 PM »
I find safes pretty regular in my units. Roughly 70% are empty. Fireboxes are general junk -- misc. paper work ... One of the recent ones I found had roughly $1k in gold/silver melt in it, along with a Marijuana growing handbook --- funny thing is that I found more gold/silver in a trash bag in the same unit than was actually in the safe.

Found a 100 year old safe month or two back, also in photos -- it was open, and empty, but made some nice dollars off of it.
