Stung again !

Finally plugged in a 30 bottle wine cooler by Haier I got at a piece by piece auction...it came out of a locker.

No go. Compressor doesn't kick on. Relay clicking, but no go.   Any ideas on how to re-purpose a 4 foot high cooler with a curved amber plastic front?

$30 down the drain !

Not sure but could try to sell as is to a farmer.. They could lay it on its back and make a chicken brooder out of it. Remember on her somewhere where old non working freezers used as feed storage. Just a thought. Might break even.

Well ours is up and running again. Back in the day the only flea market around. Then it had few run ins with the Law.
Theatre closed the Flea shortly there after. did Not help a huge Market opened down the street. Supposedly the place to sell.. Have never gone there to pricey for us and our goods.. LOL

Have not been to the new opening of the theatre or the flea. They do have vendors advertise on CL.

Flea Markets / Re: Do people at your flea market come before sunrise?

Like Craig most of the buyers first thing in the morning are vendors. I would always say here come the vultures.... Occasionally we would have a few sells in the morning to the vendors. Had one make an offer and we turned it down.. He came back mid day and upped his offer, So Sold...guess he really wanted it.

Sounds like a good business. For the occasional seller a good idea. Not taking up goods space with their once a year selling..

Sounds like the guy on the beach renting chairs and umbrellas.

Most of ours provide the tables. One you can bring extra as long as you stay in your area. another one provides one and you are not aloud to bring more. Went there a few weeks ago as a customer. Saw some of the vendors had plywood on top of milk crates..So I guess not considered a table.

Well haven't had a lot of time but always on the look out.
Hubby was inspecting a home new owners moving in old owners moving out. So a pile of stuff by the curb free. He picked up a stained glass carousel light. found a few pieces that had fallen off. Loaded up in the truck. On the road worried about it getting beat up stopped at an antique store.. She offered $200 for it. He bantered back then she said well let me go look it up and he said if you do that the price is going up... LOL  sold for the $200.  So all in all a good day Tatar.

The "Other" Job / Re: My full time "other job" is

Yeah my Uncle is to stubborn or (stupid ) to let this get him down. He is up at 7 Am telling his new helper what to do and that he is doing it wrong.
I have taken today to do nothing (which of course means do chores around the house)

We have 4 chickens. We can let them roam around all day and only lock them up at night. so not a lot of work, Get three eggs a day.

Can't wait to get things back to semi normal. Clear out some inventory and just general clean up. Then get back into at least part time storage buying / Selling.  With the hours at K-mart should be able to get to a few auctions.

K-Mart has been busy. I don't think money wise just people. Working in jewellery department so not to bad with the customers. At my interview they asked out of all the departments which one would I like the least and I said this time of year the TOY DEPARTMENT... LOL

I will finally get some down time getting like 20 hours this week. Have been almost full time since I started.  I am really good at retail... HATE the hours.

Could add on the missing in action thread same Uncle went horse back riding got thrown and broke 10 ribs and his collar bone. So I have been a nurse, and had to take care of his 9 houses, 2 dogs, and the chickens. On top of working till midnight at K-Mart.  He finally got a helper so I don't have to do it any more.  So going to take some down time and breath.

Garage Sales / Re: Is theft a problem at your garage sales?
« on: November 26, 2012, 08:50:35 AM »
@Millertime that is kinda what we do. But we are in a parking lot, live to far back in the woods to be at the house.  ;)

Haven't had much a theft problem but I don't sell my high value items at a yard sale. Use other venues for that stuff. Our yard sales are strictly that cheap get rid of the stuff, before it hits the trash.

The only problems we will really have is husband handles the man stuff and never puts prices on anything.  ;D So if he takes a break someone might try and take advantage of the situation. But if it is an over $20 item I will know that.

Picker's Paradise / Re: Picking at the Storage Auction

We bought from a buyer once. At the auction and we needed some chairs to go to a table to make a set. We had been talking and he grabbed a unit with not much in it and sold us the chairs (3) for $10.

Sold three tv's and a pretty bad looking washing machine to a buyer oh and some ladies size 10 shoes (whole box) It was not so much about profit at the time we just did not want to move them. Old heavy type tv's.

Feel we missed an opportunity to sell to a bidder. They ran the unit up, older couple think there was just one item they wanted. (it was a wysiwyg unit). We only paid $75 for the unit would have sold them what ever they wanted cheap. But I did not approach them. Very large crowd.

In general we want pick from buyers. Or sell too either.

You guys are funny.

Ok a little off subject not real sure where to post it. But have to share.

I work in the Jewelry department. Had a customer come up and wanted to know what our prices were on gold chains.
"I just bought a storage unit and it had some gold chains in it."
He just wanted to know what they were going for. I had to contain my laughter.  ;D

Being in retail again. MovieMan is right. The consumers are driving the madness.

Went to work yesterday 7Am - 1 PM get compensated by time and half. Had plenty of time for dinner.
The store opened at 6 AM I had to park in adjacent parking lot no room.
We left my vehicle at work went to our family dinner came back at 8PM (when store opened again for another round of sales) and parking lot full again. Line of people around the building.

Will agree would prefer for the Christmas Music at least after Thanksgiving.

Personally I have a little respect for places that were closed yesterday. Drove by a shopping center and everything in it was closed. Bealls, Ross and all the little shops mixed in.

Right on Travis
