General Storage Auction Talk / Finding jewelry in a unit
« on: February 27, 2012, 04:02:31 PM »
When you find jewelry (rings, necklaces, etc.), is it better to sell the jewelry as a complete item or separate the gems from the metal and sell by weight? I guess it all comes down to the quality. But what would you do with a 10K or 14K ring with zirconia on it? Or 10K or 14K ring with a precious stone on it? Test it and describe it on eBay or get the weight in gold somewhere?

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Car Title in Storage Unit
« on: February 24, 2012, 01:53:41 PM »
I found the car on the storage facility property and it is a beat up piece of s car, one window bashed in, paint job annihilated from the elements. I have no interest in the car, but the storage facility owner doesn't know that (although based on the condition, I'm sure it's obvious). The car may be good for parts, 1990 Lincoln, I don't know the model offhand, but I'm not into autos and parting things out.

I'm leaning more towards assisting the property manager by giving her the title, but not sure what kind of incentive I could negotiate other than just offering my goodwill. I have through the weekend to clean out the unit and it will be done by then...would the PM really offer $$$ for getting the title?

General Storage Auction Talk / Car Title in Storage Unit
« on: February 24, 2012, 07:10:36 AM »
I'm in PA, got a storage unit and my first time finding a car title...actually two of them. Anyway, the manager of the storage facility asked for me to look for a title because evidently they have a car sitting on the property from the same person for one of the titles. I asked a little bit further and she said "having the title would be easier so I wouldn't have to get a salvage title."

So...should I return the title to the property manager? Do I have any legal right to the car if I wanted it?

Thanks

My name is Brendon and new to the storage locker business...and I love it!!! However, I did not get burned yet, so we'll see what happens after that occurs. I do have two profitable lockers under my belt and hope to have many, many more as time goes on. I'm in it for the money making aspect, but also the entertainment and discovery value as well. I just opened a non-related business this year, so this is a nice way to supplement income during the start-up and possibly get into this more as a second business if time allows. I just wanted to introduce myself and say that this forum is great and educational and hope to learn more as time goes on, from reading and my own experiences/mistakes.
