General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Very shocked!
« on: August 16, 2012, 01:09:09 PM »
I'm perhaps more guilty than anyone regarding talking about the tv shows as I do a regular rundown of any given night's doings just after the airing.

BUT, I am the first to put down those doings as unreasonable if not unbelieveable. I don't review the Auction Hunters because it is so totally off the wall (and I don't watch it) and the Storage Hunters...well, nothing needs to be said about that one.

SO, I personally don't think that just being quiet about it will make it go away. With 50 states watching the TV shows and only 2,600 members here (and how many non-members) it's doubtful this forum has much impact on what the tv watchers will do one way or the other.  What we see here in all threads is just support for what each of us believes or doesn't believe about this business.

I think subconsciously, some buyers love the shows because it gives them a built in excuse for why their business is not as successful as it should be.  Instead of spending their time trying to better themselves, or working a little harder than they used to to make money they can sit at home feeling sorry for themselves and blaming the tv shows and the noobies.

I'm confused, you hate the shows but you keep refreshing topics about the shows and then create new topics about the shows. It seems you have a vested interest in keeping the TV shows on everyones mind. If you really hate the TV shows as much as you say then why don't you just let the threads die a natural death and stop starting new topics about them!  ???

Guess what, the popularity of the TV shows is fading, just shut up about it and they will go away.  ;)

Thank you!

bwd what the hell are you talking about?

Yes 260 views one reply. But I will play along. As you know this is the worst rated season for SW since its been on the air. So who cares well America doesn't care according to the ratings. The show sucks its a total sell out show and people are buying into the fakeness of the show. What does worst rated season tell you? It tells you people didn't return after last season. The show is worst the the nastiest mattress you can find in a unit.

And yet, you can't stop talking about it.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Kids at Auctions
« on: July 13, 2012, 10:52:37 PM »
Last auction I was at a kid yells out "look, there's guns".  They were right at his eye level at the front corner but behind something and somehow he saw him.  Manager says "that's going to be a big problem".  He pulls them out and decides they were pellet guns and puts them back.  If they were real guns he probably wouldn't have been able to auction the unit and that kid would've screwed things up.

Well the auction was in Toronto and turns out they were filming an episode of Baggage Battles.  Saw the odd antique couple from Storage Wars.

The good:

The show taping did not really affect the auction process much.  There were no re-takes like I heard about from the storage shows, and the auction pretty much went on as usual once you got past the fact that there were six cameras there.  There didn't seem to be any shenanigans or trickery going on.  In fact the auctioneer missed the casts bids a couple times.

The bad:

I felt the prices were way too high.  Suit cases were going for $50-$200 each and back packs and small bags were going for $30+.
I went home empty handed.  I was tempted to get one just for the experience but I am an educated guesser, not a gambler.  Had the prices been more in line with what I thought would be reasonable, I would have given it a shot.

Also, the cast stuck out like a sore thumb.  We Canadians are very bland, not like these Hollywood types lol.

I will report back.  This place has an auction every week, but they usually take all the items out of the bags before hand and sell them individually (along with misguided freight items and overstock).  This is the first time they are auctioning off untouched bags.  There usually are some ipods and cameras from the luggage.  Don't think there's anything much better than that though.  Hopefully they're going on the cheap but it's well advertised so probably not.

Sorry for this money, but your posts drive me nuts.  Would it kill you to use a pronoun or two? :-\

Havn't subscribed but they do seem to have a large database.  I find things on there all the time that aren't on ebay's completed listings.  If you do a google search for something not so common, worthpoint will usually come up but they don't show you the price unless you subscribe.

He has full legal access to his unit during the business hours of the facility.

Unless the terms of service he signed said otherwise.

my point is that it wasn't necessary and added no intrinsic value to your post. It only seemed as if you were trying to get a rise out of the crowd (no pun intended).

No intrinsic value was intended anywhere in my post.  You are in the wrong forum if you are looking for intrinsic value.  The purpose of the Storage Auction Stories forum is, and I quote, "We want to hear your craziest Storage Auction Stories! Whether it be crazy, scary, funny, sad we want to hear it!"

I found this story to be crazy, funny and sad all at the same time.  Your comments are just sad.

Why did you throw in the detail of fornication? Grow up.

Haha, I said that because that is what the manager told me.  Take the stick out of your butt.  It also has nothing to do with moral character since they were married.  I know from past volunteer work that at the homeless shelters the men and women are split up so I don't really blame them.  It's better than doing it outside.

General Storage Auction Talk / Getting bad smells out of clothes.
« on: May 07, 2012, 12:34:51 AM »
Anyone have any experience getting cigarette and other odors out of clothing?  I've washed them a couple times which has helped, but someone with a good sense of smell will likely still notice.  I'm hoping just having them in a non-smoking environment for a while will help as well.  I also have a leather jacket that smells bad.
