Private Sellers / Re: No activity in my zip code

If you post it, they will come.  It's rare that you won't sell what you post.  Just keep in mind that you may get higher bid amounts if you are in a larger populated area.

I live in a small town and rent units in a much larger cities, about an hour away from where I live, to create a larger market for the unit and items that I am selling.  It's been my experience that people may not bid much if they have to drive farther or away from their location.  Larger cities yield better bids in my opinion.

Yikes, that's high.  Wonder if creating an association and adding yearly rewards to its members would be a cheaper alternative? There's always more than one way to skin a cat. :-)

I believe they have marketing people and advertise in print with association magazines, site, and etc.  This is how people get their name run in front of them, although word of mouth is good, but, getting corporate companies to back auctions and move on it is the way to go.  Even awards that are given to the site, which is sponsored by an association, which makes people look and see their name advertised.

If you could leverage a sales person or two or focus on associations to recognize your site, investors and people will follow what others are telling them and what they are seeing.

Just my two cents.

This site is the Cadillac of auction sites!  It's filled with many useful tools and features, my favorites are Make an Offer and Buy Now.  I just started trying them out here and I have received an offer on one of my units.  Although I did not accept the offer, it was a fantastic tool to have as an option for both the bidder and the seller.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Garage sales cloaked as estate sales

I've known a few auctioneers that use this approach, but, at a location or space.  On the other hand, they can go both ways, stage an estate sale or have an estate sale auction.  It's a good place to use consignment with the auctioneer to sell your own items too.   :D

Might be the file size, but, here is the time out message I get from the site script.  Might want to bump up or add a flash uploader to show a progress bar vs the site script, which appears to be counting down and then errors out.

Message:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/virtual/public_html/OnlineStorageAuctions.com/wp-includes/class-wp-image-editor-gd.php on line 176

Personally, I think a flash uploader added in as a plugin would look much nicer too and save time locating files each item, since it is now setup to click "browse" for every file that we would like to upload.

Sincerely,

James

Suggestion Center / Re: Letting buyers pay with credit cards or PayPal
« on: March 18, 2014, 12:05:28 AM »
Accepting Credit Cards with a mobile app like Square would be a good tool, but, do see the security risk from thieves or people calling the credit card companies to prevent payment.  Square does not have a withdrawal limit that I am aware of.

The downside that I have found with using Paypal is their fraud department.  If Paypal makes a decision it is final and there is no real cooperation or communication to work with the customers and the Paypal Account Holder.

Meeting in person and cash is always king in my opinion.

Sincerely,

JC
