General Storage Auction Talk / Abandoned Property Auctions?
« on: May 02, 2011, 06:41:31 PM »
Has anyone here ever done an Abandoned property Auction? These look like they would be very tricky as to how much you would want to pay.

The nice thing about them is you take what you want a leave the rest ( at least that's what I'm seeing on the site that list them).

Any comments are welcome as I'm getting quite curious about these Auctions, as they are becoming more common in my area.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Today's Auction
« on: April 14, 2011, 11:36:58 PM »
Hit my first of 3 Auctions over the next 2 days. of the 30 bidders that showed up, 10 were Hardcore Regulars, 3 really obvious noobies, and us part timers made up the rest of the field.

6 units in all going from $5.00 this unit I didn't think would even receive a bid, as it had a broken infant swing, a small box that appeared to have nothing more than old school papers, and an empty storage bin.

3 good unit out of the 6 one went for $375.00 and another that went for $1025.00 full of tools , mechanic, lawn tools, oh and a samurai sword. I bid on the other unit had some good quality leather furniture, a silk screening machine, a hooka as well as numerous storage bins and some low quality speakers.

2 more auction tomorrow one @ 11 am and the other @ 1pm will give an update on crowds and pricing on those.

General Storage Auction Talk / Has anyone ever bought a POD?
« on: April 09, 2011, 10:16:56 AM »
I noticed we have a POD Auction in two weeks, and I have never been to a POD Auction yet. Has anyone here every done a POD Auction? What to expect? Are they worth going too? Are they too much of a gamble? How did you do with your POD?

The Treasure Chest / Lapidary Equipment
« on: April 06, 2011, 10:47:02 PM »
I took an extended lunch today to make an Auction close by and got a cheap locker $40 for a 3x5 not much in it but some cheap furniture and had mostly used household items in the few boxes. However in the back was a tarp over something and no one wanted to take a shot at it so I stepped up for the 40 bucks.

To my surprise it was a lapidary bench with wet saw/grinder/sander and lapping wheel. I threw it up on Craigslist @ 1:30 and had it sold for $350.00 by 8:00pm.
Not a bad day for a last minute locker.

If anyone is interested in a Site that List Storage Auctions all up and down California. Then send me a PM, you can actually make a bit o extra money for each one that signs up. Plus you get the benefit of a list of auctions and it doesn't cost you any money.

I won't post the link here out of courtesy to the site operators, plus I don't want to be accused of spamming!  :o

I decided since these two auctions are so close together I'd take a vacation day to hit them both if needed. If I do any good I'll drop a post and share my experience here.
Wish Me Luck
