Stories about Storage Auctions / Let the assumptions begin
« on: October 23, 2012, 08:25:58 PM »
Ok we have been out for awhile. Work and some family obligations. (old people LOL )

We have not been to an auction in months. Have even stopped looking them up for now.

So today on our way to town we get a phone call on my husbands cell phone.

Hello this is Barbra from storage facility-X. We are having an auction today at 10:00 AM today. (it was 10:00 when she called). Would we be attending? How many units do you have? 5

A little history this facility does not hold a lot of auctions. We have only attended one there (over 6 months ago). And at that time mainly regulars showed up. Not a huge crowed. We were unable to get there today. : (.

So are things getting back to normal when they are calling for bidders?

The Lounge / Missing in action...
« on: July 31, 2012, 02:17:30 PM »
Hey guys and gals.... Sorry been out of the forum.... Not like you guys missed me are anything.... :P

Have had some family medical issues. My Aunt has been in the hospital for almost two weeks. Her husband fell and broke his arm and injured his leg... (they live across the street so I have been playing nurse maid and farm helper).  Aunt went home to son's house (he lives close to the hospital just in case) the injured husband is as stubborn as a mule so he is doing better.  They are both in their 70's.    ::)

I will be leaving next week for a wedding in Main... Bought cheaper tickets so I have to be up there for a week.  Poor Me... LOL

Sounds like things are looking better on the auction scene hopefully can get back in when I get back and things settle down here.

Over 24 hrs of a constant rain. Actually saw the sun for about an hour this morning. Enough time to feed and weatherize the animals.

Need the rain but sure do wish this early storm would move !!!!! has not moved in 24 hrs. just setting in the Gulf.  ::)

Oh the rain is starting again.  Oh goody.

We are safe hoping we weather this one well.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Low unit #'s and junk units.
« on: June 12, 2012, 08:25:34 AM »
Ok have noticed here on the forum the chatter of low unit #'s and junk lockers.

Been wanting to share.

Husbands new job is an inspector for bank foreclosures. Not all inspections are in full foreclosure, (they have not made their payment on time). But a lot of them are. He has to do interior inspections.

He did 500 inspections last month, about 150 were full forecloses. He is one of 8 inspectors.

Most of these places look like a storage lockers. (Some good, some not). Some are full, looks like they moved out in a hurry.  ???  So low storage #'s.

The flip to my husband's job is what is called restoration. You go in and clean out home. (we are looking into this avenue). So a seller in the restoration side could make a killing. Get paid to clean out the home, take what is sell-able and sell. Total win. ( I had to stop looking at the pictures, drooling over sell-able stuff)

I did something similar years ago but for reality companies. Not such high volume.

What he has noticed is the locksmith, who goes and changes the lock on the home gets first dibs on visible goods.

Just our insight of trends.

Flea Markets / Might have found a home !
« on: May 21, 2012, 06:40:46 AM »
We have been on the slow side. Having to rework our selling, Thrift crashing = no yard sales, the fleas not doing to well, and husbands new job.

Went out this Saturday to a one day Flea market in a parking lot. Wanted to go check it out. Think we will fit in nicely and have good sells.  It was Flea market style but almost Farmers Market style.

So looks promising of the mix of stuff we can sell. It is front of a RV/mobile home retiree park. Across the street from a national camping park, and down the street from a popular boat ramp. The shopping plaza has a bait and tackle store, and a restaurant.

Planning on hitting it this Saturday.  Moving some of this inventory.  ::) Hopefully enough to hit some auctions next week.

Think it will be a good every weekend spot to rebuild our customers we had at our yard sales, (in front of the thrift) So looking forward to that.

Going to check out another consignment shop also.

Went and helped out my Aunt last week ( OMG her hording has gotten really bad ). Think I will acquire a lot of items from her for payment and for commission sells. Will be doing more work for her this week.

The Lounge / Love Bugs
« on: May 09, 2012, 06:28:59 PM »

Being swarmed by the little buggers. Don't ever recall them being this bad.

Don't open your mouth while outside you may get an unexpected snack.  :-X

Husband had to come home and wash (scrub) the windshield, and go back out to finish his work.

Their dead bodies eat your cars paint if you don't get it off. They are harmless but annoying. I go outside and I am swarmed.

For more information if you would like.

eBay / Sales Back On
« on: May 07, 2012, 04:58:06 AM »
Re-listed all the items that did not sell last week. Sold two already.

I try to list so end times are after Church on Sunday. But listed early yesterday morning just to get it done, Just a few hours later, two sold.  :D

Clothes are doing well for me on ebay. Specialty items not so much. China Tea set, Set of painted glasses and decanter.  Things I consider fluff items.

Not sure if because I am a new seller (13) or just signs of the economy. (low ebay # some people don't leave feed back.)

Sells at the thrift really dropped when the gas prices were close to $4.00. If you have to drive 30 miles round trip to get to work can't spend money on non essentials.  Gas prices are falling for us. So maybe sells will pick up. Just my opinion.

Craigslist / Chest of Drawers
« on: May 07, 2012, 04:37:45 AM »
Listed  2 Chest of Drawers on CL.

have received about 20 emails about them. All porn driven. This is one of them.

"We are near to one another so why not meet for wine in near future? I already know this is for sales but I could not back off, you sound chill. Are we able to chat at this moment, I have used this site few days ago and it's sincerly good - I was hoping we could go over there and learn about each other much better! ;) I have already published personal pics for you, all you have to do is register (don't fret, there's no cost). I will message you as soon as I see you log on. I promise you will NOT be unsatisfied! "

Picture was also attached. (no I am not going to post it here).

Have taken Movieman's advice of no email contact.

Guess using the words Chest or Drawers is a tip for someone looking for a good time.  ::)

Picker's Paradise / Picking Yard Sales Weekend May 4
« on: May 04, 2012, 04:32:55 PM »
Went out yard selling  ::)

No great finds a few personal items picked.

But every sell we went to, the sellers were of a much older generation (over 70).

Just found that interesting. And no good picks.  ???

Did pick an antique piece from the thrift we sell at. We had done some trading before Christmas, she owed us $40. Gave her $10 bucks for the piece and washed the $40.

Nice Chifforobe. The closet side was locked and a tantalizing list of guns in the other cabinet.  And it was heavy as He**..  Was hoping to post some pics of a nice gun collection.

We got in and just musty smelly work clothes.  :-\

General Storage Auction Talk / Mattresses
« on: April 16, 2012, 04:06:23 PM »
Taking this from the Auction scene.

Mattress springs selling and crafts.  ::)

Have two crib mattresses and one single mattress. Took maybe 10 minutes to remove the plastic cover on the crib mattress nice white padding underneath pulled off into two pieces. Great for shipping. What was left was all the metal springs easy scrap, all in one piece.

The twin took a little longer (needed a new razor blade). Maybe 30 minutes to remove outer cover. Never done it before so a little time for learning curve. Have to wait on husband to get home to get the wire cutters out of the tool box to finish. Not sure how the the spring covers will come off.

On the plus springs on the twin are nice and rusty has been laying around for a while.  ;)
And they are selling on Ebay... Not for much as MovieMan pointed out.

Will see what I can come up with for the use of them or easy scrap.

The cover off the twin would make a nice furniture moving blanket like StorMe said.

eBay / Finally making it work.
« on: April 02, 2012, 01:04:29 PM »
Been piling stuff for ebay.  ???  Just procrastinating.  Did get my room straightened out and a little organized so I can move around in it.

Got all my misc. notes together (weights, measurements, ect.)

In my defence storage/ ebay sell stuff on other side of property. No internet... Go and get all the info and pictures come back over here and always forget something. (new at this)...  So with my procrastinating nature takes way too long.  ;)

My husband changed jobs more of a self employed thing and has taken both of us to get it under control.
(Sounds good to me.  ::) )  ;)

Listed an Iron  we got out of the box lot Listed for $9.99.......................Sold for $38.76  ;D
Would have sold it for $5.00 at Flea.

Sooooo Going over to get more stuff out of that pile.

Have decided to list the China Tea Set (in What is it Worth thread)  for either 15 or 30 days to see what happens.
Any advice on that idea would be greatly appreciated.

Other Forms of Selling / Spring Festival / Yard sale
« on: March 17, 2012, 06:48:32 PM »
Our Little town had a Festival / yard sale event today at the local community center.

Think our best day ever. Drove about 6 miles to get there sooooo that a big plus to start.
$10 for a space.

Very low crowd but sold what we do at the Flea miles away. Had live music all day.  ;D

Also picked up a wicker rocking chair for $2. Looks shabby can defiantly resale it for a lot more. But I really like it nice and comfy.

So all in all a good day. Saw the only thrift store owner there selling. She said she is having to go to auctions because she has no donations. She runs an SOS out reach.

Not sure how much she is doing for the community but looked a little fishy to me.

Did realize though that if she is my competition if we did open a store there was none.  ;)

Oh and Happy St Patrick's Day !!! We did wear green.
