I know that this is mainly a storage unit forum but a funny thing happened at a estate sale today....

I was helping a friend catch bids at a Big, Big, BIG farm estate sale and we were walking down the wall of a barn
selling furniture and we came to a small white cabinet....bidding started hot and heavy and was quickly at $150, it got down to 2 ladies...."I got a hunnerd & a half (My lady), now 160, ye able to buy 'em at 160(other lady bids)...160, now 170, 170, woody give 170"....so I'm looking at my bidder and she says (get this) "just one sec"...I say "are you in, he's gonna sell it"....she holds up the "one sec" finger....and he sells it to the other lady for 160....my lady get pissed and says "he's not supposed to do that, he is supposed to let me bid 170 and then close it right out like on E-bay".....the guy next to her burst out laughing and so did I....I said "mam this is the real world not the Internet, there is no sniping at a live auction"....she just shook her head and stormed off.....

General Storage Auction Talk / Mad People?
« on: January 28, 2012, 05:10:17 PM »
Why do people seem to get mad/angry when you outbid them?

Had a nice pair if Infinity home speakers come up today, that sold new
for about $1400 each...bidding started at $50, I got them for $115 for the pair

once I started to move them the others that were bidding and a few whom did not
seemed to be pissed at me for winning them...What gives?.....you had just as much
right to bid as me

We tried a new approach today, had 8 total units, we did 4 whole and 4 "by the piece"
guess which brought the most?

the "by the piece" units by over 1/2 as much

I've noticed that since the "Auction Reality TV" explosion...Our crowd size seems to just keep getting bigger at every auction....are you guys/gals seeing the same?...and do you think it is from the "Shows" or maybe due too the Economy?

General Storage Auction Talk / Whole Bin or By the Piece?
« on: December 26, 2010, 01:30:11 PM »
I work for a small auction company(5-6 ppl)...we do "By the piece" type auctions.
the main reasons we do this is the auctioneer owns and runs a small flower shop, and the help(including me) all have regular 40 hr jobs...
We like by the piece because you just bid/buy what you want, no "Junk" to haul off.

just wondering what you guys/gals prefer?

Hello All, My name is Roger and I've been in the auction biz for 15+ years...we have a small auction company of 5-6 ppl and we specialize in storage bins(we do the by the piece type auctions). I'm what's referred too in the biz as a "Table Man" I pull the next item too put up for bid, give the Auctioneer a brief description and show it too the bidders. I love this Game...the strange items, the look on the crowds faces, the "Good" deals etc.

I'm in South Carolina(Greenville) and we have some very good auctions here and I Go to / Work all that I can (Gotta 40 hr day job)... It's just too bad that the Whole Bin folks seem to only work on Tue,Wed or Thrusdays around here...we always run on Saturday's, "Oh well, you can't have it all"   Roger
