Craigslist / You know what I hate most about Craigslist?
« on: May 03, 2013, 04:18:53 PM »
What I hate most about CL are the sellers who have never spent a day selling on ebay, and want to get the same amount as you would on ebay.  They list what they want for it and justify by saying its going for X amount on ebay.  I cannot resist and have to respond with a big f u!  I tell them all the same thing:  You obviously have never sold a single item on ebay, cuz if you did, you would understand that you cannot get the same amount that one would get on ebay.  They do not take into consideration the hard work and time it takes to sell items on ebay.  First you research the value of the item, then you take a picture and load it into your computer, then you create the listing and attach the pics, then you have to respond to all questions in a timely manner, which involves checking many times a day, and finally you have to package and ship the item, also in a timely manner.  What makes them feel they are entitled to the same price?  I know the answer to my own question...ignorance!!

Stores / Opening up Retail Store
« on: May 03, 2013, 03:16:55 PM »
Wondering if anyone would be willing to share with me how hard it was to start up a retail store and sell your items there.  I already have 2 businesses, one of them being one of the hardest businesses to start and run (elder home care) and not really sure if I would have the time or energy to open one, but sometimes it feels like it might be a little less stressful than meeting 20 people interested in buying one item on CL. I have alot of business sense, so I am not worried about hard work, just wanted to hear a little about some of your journeys.  You should be proud!!

General Storage Auction Talk / Great Finds?
« on: May 03, 2013, 03:13:22 PM »
Has anyone found a diamond in the ruff in a unit like they do on the shows?  These guys always seem to find super valuable stuff.  One guy found 20 plus thousand dollars in paintings, etc.  Is it found only in well to do areas, or certain states?  I would love to hear some success stories.  It pumps me up and revs me til the next auction!

Does anyone out there think that the owners of the storage units has the ability to go through the units prior to auction and look for the valuable items?  That would really suck if it were to happen.

General Storage Auction Talk / Researching Auctions Prior to Going
« on: May 03, 2013, 03:02:09 PM »
I have seen on the tv shows that some of them mention that they were deciding on how much to bid based on the information they learned about the person who was renting the unit.  They would say things like this one was rented by an elder, or this one was rented by a antique shop owner, etc.  Is it possible to find out this kind of information and if so how do you get it??
