Extra Space's 1100+ facilities throughout the country will be switching to Storagetreasures starting July 1st.

They did it in several locations throughout the last year and just got final approval two weeks ago.  All managers are reporting in for training within the next 2 weeks.

With ridiculous prices on this site and inability to look at the goods many of the regulars in my neck are calling it quits.

Public Storage, mom and pops are the only ones left by me.

Purchased a commercial mystery locker for $800.

It was an art.com supplier and had just about 20,000 museum quality lithographs.  They are small, medium and large.

Small retail is $40
Medium retail is $100
Large retail is $200

All in all it comes out to retail at around $1.2M

Ebay prices puts the small at $5, medium at $20 and large at $40.

Those prices add up to around $350k

It will probably take around 10 years to sell them all but this is the retirement locker.

It appears some people have to eat some humble pie and acknowledge that my "inside scoops" were right the entire time and that the shows were officially cancelled, at least in the way that we knew them.

Storage Wars NY and Texas have been officially moved from "Current" to "Classics", with NY being a dead link

The end is upon us.

Mine is a piece of art that is valued at around $50k.  A guy I know hit a piece for $220k.

Online Storage Auctions / Weird facility rule
« on: October 12, 2014, 08:32:24 PM »
Check out the fine print of an online auction ....

Buyer is responsible for removing the entire contents of the unit within 72 hours of auction end. Buyer must present valid state or government issued photo ID at time of pick up. Buyers agrees to leave any personal items (birth certificates, passports, driver's license, photo album, financial documents, social security cards, etc. with site manager at time of removal. No dumpster on site. A lock is required to secure unit if you are unable to remove contents in one visit. Buyer must sign and agree to Pier 40 Self Storage On-line Public Auction sale rules before making payment and removing storage unit contents. Removal of items is only during our business hours Tuesday through Friday 7:30am to 6:00pm. Sale is not final until contents of unit are fully removed : Tenant in default can pay and claim their storage unit at anytime after unit is listed in auction to when the contents of the unit are present. Cash only!!

Apparently even if you pay them and start to load the units, if the owner pays they will get the rest of their stuff back?  What kind of craziness is this?

I am monitoring some online units and I see one that was just posted, has two weeks left and its already in the thousands.  The price is increasing while I'm looking at it.

I don't see the rationale behind bidding up a room when there is so much time left.

Ebay people like to watch the item and then sit back and see what happens.

Split topic

Big sis ... apparently she passed away.  Tried to find out what happened but no info out there.

Update: Before the cause of death was released, some people speculated that Robins death may have been drug related or suicide. Robin passed away from cancer.

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Dan Dotson 4-20% survival rate
« on: June 21, 2014, 04:38:38 PM »
I'm sure some of you have seen that Dan Dotson had a double embolism last night and went under the knife today.  Apparently they got it in time but they aren't sure of his full recovery yet.

Besides being active non stop with his booming business and he is a pretty big smoker I have noticed that when they show him lately on the show he is really starting to pack on the pounds.

Hopefully this is a wake up call.  He was always a super nice guy.

The Treasure Chest / Piece auction potential treasure
« on: January 12, 2014, 06:54:47 PM »
I'm phasing myself out of the storage auction scene and going to the higher end piece by auctions.

I purchased a piece of art for 750 and it may, if it checks out, be appraised in the 40-60k range.  Would be a great hit if its real but always doubtful when it seems too good to be true

General Storage Auction Talk / Storage Battles Finally Hits Long Island
« on: January 03, 2014, 07:33:11 AM »
Just saw the legal notice ... online auctions are coming to LI ... as I'm sitting here with over a foot of snow outside my door I'm not going to mind it.

Note to Travis .. Tex goes up every 3 months for about 2 years and they always pay at the last minute.  The facility is also notorious for cancelling auctions when they cut the lock and like items inside.  They feel that they can get more from working something about with the customer rather than dealing with us auction folk.  They are also big on working on deals where the customer can pay a little take what they want and leave the rest for us.

The other name I don't recognize so hopefully that goes off ... interested to see how it works.
