Not sure about the Pokemon cards, but I know there's still a market for Magic cards. If you have a game shop in your area (like a specialty type shop) they are probably your best bet for determining value. I have a couple friends who play Magic, so I will typically offer up those cards to them first and they are up on the current value.

This is one of my many pet peeves with Craigslist (or more specifically with people).
You get the insulting offers, the no-shows, the people who want to ask a million stupid questions, the "you still have this?" emails.
I have gone so far as to accept people's ridiculous offers (hey, would you take $10 instead of $150?)...and they still don't follow through! Ridiculous!
"You still have this" usually gets a "yes" from me. And that's typically the end of that conversation.

The serious buyers that get my attention are the ones who respond to my ads the same way that I respond when I want to buy something (and I do buy a lot on CL!)
"Hello, I want to buy your such-and-such. Let me know when I can come give you money. Here is my phone number. Thank you"

Pretty simple, really.

My biggest gripe with CL is the frigging cheapskates. I can post something like a digital camera that was $120 new (recently, not 10 years ago), list it for $60 (the going price on Ebay all day long), and get people sending me offers for $20 and $30, usually attached to some sob story about needing it for their church, blah blah blah.....

I try to stick with large items (furniture, etc..) and free items (there are people who will take a mattress full of dog turds if it's free!)
Smaller shippable items are way more profitable on Ebay (and the buyer isn't going to waste your time).

$20 is my threshold. I have people meet me at my local shopping center 2 blocks from the house and call when they arrive, or have them call me when they're heading out and I will find a landmark for them to meet me if I'm out doing auctions. Anything less than $20 isn't worth my time with the email back and forth, etc...

There's a pretty big market for collectible beer cans. I'm no expert but my understanding is that they should be emptied (the beer will eventually rot out the can). I believe the serious collectors will pop a hole in the bottom to drain them, leaving the top opening intact.
