eBay / Re: Finally making it work.

Oh god I know how that feels... I couldn't sell a pair of Nike Air hiking boots for $2 at the flea. Put them on ebay and bam: $14. I also had all these ralph lauren polos that I couldn't get rid of for $1 at the flea. Sold one on ebay for $7.50. I love ebay now...

Buying is easy but until you have your sales side of the business built up your going to end up with a full garage for a long time.  So, lets hope we all have understanding spouses in the interim :)

Hooooh yea I know how that is. I'm only 18, so I'm doing much smaller scale stuff with the help of my mother's van. She's VERY understanding and even drives the full-to-the-roof van to and from work  :o.

Forcast was cloudy with a 30% chance of rain (thunderstorms) but it didn't end up raining. Still, people were scared off, and it was a slow day. Ended up with $48 in profit. Less than what I've been averaging, but oh well.

So I put up an ad on craigslist asking for leftover yard sale stuff and I got a huge lot for $50 and this was in it. I don't know what it's worth because there are almost zero distinctive markings. The closest thing I've found is this:

antiquesnavigator.com/d-550350/unique-antique-cast-iron-stove-top-waffle-iron-strange.html

Mine doesn't have the pan/handle, so keep that in mind... I was thinking about putting it on ebay for around $15-$20 since complete ones of a popular brand are selling anywhere from $30-$100.

Thanks!

edit: the pictures might help >.<

Today was cold as hell and windy to boot. Same weather last time we went (when we made almost $150) but we only made around $50-60. We had to pack it in around one because it was so windy. All our stuff was flying everywhere! Oh well... I guess I'm lucky in the sense that I have to opportunity to do this as a hobby while I'm in school so minimal profits, while discouraging aren't back-breaking. Weather's going to be the same tomorrow so I'm holding out until next weekend.

Holy crap. My flea charges $25 a space. Of course, it's the Raleigh flea market... supposedly the largest, most frequented flea in the south. I dunno about that, but we see a TON of people, even when the weather is bad  :-\

Anyway, good luck to you!

Swap meets and flea markets are the same thing I believe, just different names for different regions.

Haha, good to know! Thanks.

This weekend in NC it was windy and cold (in the 30's and 40's with windchill) and I still made $150. I guess I was just lucky.

Anyway, thanks so much for the suggestions. Especially the yard sale leftovers.

Unfortunately, since there are around 4 or 5 flea markets within 30-40 minute drive, we don't really have swap meets around here. I still went to the flea market for a few weeks just to scope out prices and such.

Hello.

After my first two experiences as a vendor at the flea market, I've decided I definitely need more product. I did well ($80 first time, $150 second time) but both times I ran low on product and didn't have enough to go back the next weekend or even the weekend after. Since I'm 18 and living with my parents while I'm at school, it's difficult for me to have a large amount of inventory since I don't have much storage space. I can't exactly cycle through inventory. Anyway, I've been asking everyone I can if they would be willing to donate random junk they just want hauled off, but most of the time they just say "yea, we'll call you when we find something" but it doesn't happen. Since I reinvested my profits from the flea market into more product, all I have is about $150. Not nearly enough for storage auctions. Any tips/suggestions?

Flea Markets / Re: MY First Time
« on: February 09, 2012, 09:42:06 PM »
My first time out was 2 weeks ago. We netted $80. We got rained out last week and this week it's gonna be pretty cold (but we're going in anyway. Been itchin to make some money). Of course, my flea is one of the largest in the south that boasts something like 2 million unique visitors annually. There's always a few hundred vendors, which I found overwhelming my first time out  :P
