I know that this is mainly a storage unit forum but a funny thing happened at a estate sale today....

I was helping a friend catch bids at a Big, Big, BIG farm estate sale and we were walking down the wall of a barn
selling furniture and we came to a small white cabinet....bidding started hot and heavy and was quickly at $150, it got down to 2 ladies...."I got a hunnerd & a half (My lady), now 160, ye able to buy 'em at 160(other lady bids)...160, now 170, 170, woody give 170"....so I'm looking at my bidder and she says (get this) "just one sec"...I say "are you in, he's gonna sell it"....she holds up the "one sec" finger....and he sells it to the other lady for 160....my lady get pissed and says "he's not supposed to do that, he is supposed to let me bid 170 and then close it right out like on E-bay".....the guy next to her burst out laughing and so did I....I said "mam this is the real world not the Internet, there is no sniping at a live auction"....she just shook her head and stormed off.....

Sounds good to me. I think we each have our opinions about the business and they are sometimes at odds.

Basically when I say something negative about auctioneers or property managers it should not be taken as a blanket statement. There are good ones and bad ones...same as with buyers who don't go by the rules as opposed to those who do.

I think because of the tv shows' popularity there have been more recent incidents of staged lockers as an example. This may or may not involve the lkr renter AND the prop manager or auctioneer, but it could.

Then it is done.

Now on too the current scene.....I totally agree about the shows...seems the worst has been brought out in folks in the way of behavior, and I guess what galls me the most is that Auctioneers are "supposed" to abide by a code of ethics and hearing stories of those that do not really pisses me off because it gives the rest of us a bad name....you know, they see something bad and tell 2 people and each of them tells 2 people etc...and as it goes along the story get worse and worse.

Well, there would be no shortage of material to critique AND it might be more profitable than buying lockers !  ;)

Movie Man, I gave it some thought today and realized that our bickering back and forth does no one any good, so what you say to burying the hatchet and starting over?

After I read the first- I skipped most everything else  :P But there is a recent auction/ auctioneer up around danbury who is bringing his excess trash / dead inventory/ slow movers to a couple of storage places. He is advertising on auctiozip as a" storage auction". Bidders beware- this seems to be a really ugly trend.
Ps- i'm both a baad spella nd bad smella, and typin' on my ipoop doesn't help.
Yes, I called it an ipoop  ??? ::)

Elvis, not sure which Danbury you are referring to, but for myself, the RULE is NO GREEN CARD, unit is passed on
and before MM blows a gasket and accuses me of being a racists....by green card I mean the Postal Green Card where the letter of notification was signed for.....ALL UNITS FOR LIEN AUCTION MUST HAVE THE "GREEN CARD"

If the management want me to run anything else...I announce it that way...that way the bidders know exactly what they are bidding on.

Forgot to mention your lack of proofreading in the post noted above in red. As I'm sure you know it's "it's believability".

My spelling error exacerbated (look it up) by your lack of an apostrophe making "its" into the contraction "it is".  ;) :D

Movie Man, I guess it really chaps your ass that I and others like me make an average of 30% off your ass at every sale, Oh and that is not even counting the BP!!!

Good Luck....On your next "Auction Scene" thread.

Well, anyone who calls someone else out on his spelling should certainly do a bit of "proof reading" on his own posts...or is it a case of "do as I say, not as I do?".

Also, we could put it to a vote here as to who has more "believeabilty"... you or I...or is it "you or me"?  ;)

Turned in any "miscreant" auctioneers lately .... or for that matter, people who go faster than the speed limit or talk on their cell phones while driving ?  ;D

What the hell are you talking about?.....Oh wait, you are a Californian, that explains it.....and its "believability"

Run on back to "Auction Scene #?" thread....that seems to be what most of your 2000+ post count came from.

Most previews start no earlier than 8:30...you got to let the big money buyers get their breakfast in, you do not want them leaving at around 11:00 am because they missed breakfast to get to the early preview.....and on that note have some canned drinks and crackers available(for sale)

The best thing to do is HIRE A PROFESSIONAL!!!!...He/She will get you "what the market will bear" on auction day.

Your misspelling is on the pics link page...Showroom starts with a "S" not a "D"

I've been hooked on shows like storage wars for awhile now looks like there in San Diego tomorrow. So I am going to try to go. I still have not been to one and now my Boss has decided he is going to hold an Auction and just clear out our scripps ranch show room and warehouse. Its my job to advertise for it but every where I look its a storage auction or public auction I'm not sure what I'm supposed to call this type of Auction. I did set up a website to advertise for it watkinsnetwork.com but I cant find just like a regular site to post the auction I found one but they have been inactive since last year. Any ways any tips would be greatly appreciated. Either on the site I made for it or on how to let people know in my area. I'm in San Diego Ca by the way. Thanks in Advance.

Well as an Auctioneer here are several things that I see in less than 3 mins on your site

1. start time too early unless you are gonna offer preview the day before

2. needs more pics of items up for auction

3. you need to proof read, you have a misspelling!

Craigslist / Re: Everybody needs a 'Butch'~
« on: March 15, 2012, 06:05:52 PM »
Alrighty~so I had over 400 albums listed on craigslist for $150 (yes....I know I could have piecemealed 'em out and made more, but who has time for that?).  Ran the ad....nothing.  Ran it again and Butch called me.  I knew immediately I was gonna like this guy, deal or no.  I had listed the ad so as not to mislead and I told him some of the albums (and covers) were trashed and others were mint.  He replied "yep.  I'll bet the Pablo Cruise and Herb Alperts are mint, as those of us who grew up with rock tended to be stoned and didn't much care how we treated our vinyl!"  :D

Anyway the guy gets here this morning (he lives about 80 miles away) and immediately shook hands and said he got a good vibe from us.  We talked about how we acquired the bulk of the albums and he got real excited and said 'I'm your vinyl guy!  any you get, you call me and I'll buy!'  We continued talking auctions, drugs & vintage vinyl, of which he partakes in two and I two, though not the same ones.  He finally said the deal was done.  Never tried to haggle, although I would have come down a bit, just to move them.  And voila! a great new contact has been made!

You know, with all the flakes that craigslist attracts, for every ten you get one Butch and that makes it all worth while!

 ;D

Wow Rockin, I don't know what to say....but now I can see how you had your recent $1000 ding.

Every time you make one of these ridiculous responses you reduce your credibility around here. If you plan on sticking around you might want to take a step back and try and grasp the concept that you're not making any friends this way.

Enough people have pointed out that you're off base and yet you still you keep trying to fault the buyer. Perhaps its time for you to stop talking and start listening.

NO, I think that StorMe is pointing out the obvious....which is that Don looked the unit over and made a decision
on what he would go based on what he saw, which was $1000....then whines when things did not pan out

As for "Making friends" here....if having to stroke the ego of a poster or following the lemmings off the cliff is what it takes to make friends here, just call me the "lone wolf"

Not to step on anyones toes but several of you have publicly admitted to "Bid Rigging" and "Collusion"
which is a Felony.

I would advise you not to post anymore about " agreements" that you have....and edit what you have already posted

The thing that has gotten my goat lately, is the ones who are all gung-ho replying to several emails
and maybe a phone call...then BAM! no communication...What gives?...If you decide you don't want it
please just say so...is it really that freaking hard!
