New to Storage Auctions? / Best way to sell DVD's?
« on: July 16, 2015, 10:57:05 PM »
Ok, guys.  What have you found to be the best method of selling DVD's?  I have heard pawn shops, flea market, bulk on Craigslist, EBay, and even scanning them individually on Amazon.  Any thoughts/suggestions? I probably have over 400 DVD's from a unit.

Oh, and books, too!

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Unit full of bikinis

Actually, the girl who owned the unit was a Hooters girl.  I found about 20 Hooters uniforms, as well.  I've been sick since March, so haven't gotten to list anything within these units, just starting that process now.  I'm curious to see what everything goes for.  I'll keep you posted.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Designer purses, shoes and perfume

Thanks everyone.  I don't think I'll go the EBay route for these, just out of concern that someone will claim it isn't real.  I found a few online consignment places that will authenticate the bags or purses.  Seems pretty painless.
I figure for the other 80 or so purses that aren't as high end name brand (more like nine west, calvin klein, Baby Phat, etc), even if I sell them for 5-10 dollars each, that's $400 - 800.
Just for that small portion of this unit.

General Storage Auction Talk / Designer purses, shoes and perfume

I'm busy this week!

One unit this week had well over 100 purses and even more pairs of shoes! Most of them are Prada, Michael Kors. Louis Vuitton. Coach.  I believe 50% are knock offs, but the others appear to be authentic.  Great condition.  Looks like she used everything once.

Is Ebay my best bet?

How would you sell them?

General Storage Auction Talk / paintings

My most recent unit had several things that I have no experience with selling.  Thought I'd ask around for guidance from the experts (that's you guys!)

I have 3 "paintings" that I think are worth a little bit of money.  One is a print from the 40's of a Mexican artist...not an original.  But my research is telling me it's still worth a couple hundred.  Other one is a popular artist.  Last one might be an orig watercolor on canvas from the 50's.

Where do you usually sell things like this?

Well, it's finally happened. I purchased a locker in a not so good area of town.  Posted some furniture on a local FB site.  Within two minutes, the locker owner's relative commented and asked how much for everything (I figured this out by looking at his photos and friends list).  I looked on his profile and he has been in prison, no idea what for, as his real name is not posted.  The locker owner's son was also recently incarcerated for armed robbery, per her FB status.
Problem is, against my better judgement, I posted the furniture using my real name. Now they can find out my personal info, where I live, they have seen pics of my child, etc.  And I'm pretty sure I almost ran into her at the grocery store the other day.
Now I can't sell the items on that page, or on Craigslist, as they could send anyone of their friends/family to "purchase" the product. And do who knows what to try to acquire the other items.
Do I contact the storage facilities manager and offer to sell back the entire contents to the owner, and let the manager be the middle man?  How likely are they to reach the owner, let alone have them pay, when they didn't pay for the unit in the first place?  Or do I take it all to auction and cut my losses?
There was a TON of personal stuff in this unit, which I fully intended to return once I've gone through it all.
The business side of me says I'm the rightful owner, if they want to buy it back, they are welcome to do so, at cost.  The heart in me says to cut them a break and let them just reimburse me for my investment.  The rest of me is somewhere in between.  And I am somewhat fearful of retaliation.  I don't need someone busting up into my house.
