Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Storage Wars Miami
« on: May 18, 2015, 07:17:38 PM »
Just when we thought we were on the downward slope, Storage Wars Miami emerges. Ironically, it was one of the first spin-offs they talked about producing. The new show will star former local TV anchorman and auctioneer Bob Nichols. They will begin filming in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties later this month.

The other day I needed to find a power adapter for something I'm reselling. I turned to eBay, hoping that I would find one under $10. No luck. It turned out to be somewhat rare. There was only one for sale and it was $40. Ouch! It got me thinking about how may adapters & chargers we storage unit buyers come across in storage units. You guys might want to look those adapters up before dismissing them. You might be able to make a little extra money from something you'd normally just throw away.

Does anyone already do this?

Just saw a preview for a new cast member on Storage Wars. Forgot his name, as I'm sure we'll all do soon enough. A lovely chap with half his face tattooed. Storage Wars has officially turned into a side show.

The Lounge / So what's everyone been up to?

So what's everyone been up to? It's been kind of quiet around here. I've been remodeling AuctionsTX.com, so I haven't had much time to chat. Any good scores lately?

Governor Susana Martinez signed an update to New Mexico’s self-storage lien law on April 9th, 2015. Operators in the state may now conduct lien sales online. Special thanks to the New Mexico Self Storage Association and national Self Storage Association for their efforts.

Let's see who can come up with the best joke. I'll start.

I don't think this is what your wife meant when she said she wanted to move into a new home.

PayPal / PayPal Credit Card Chargebacks - Buyer Always Wins
« on: April 13, 2015, 10:19:38 AM »
I'm deeply concerned with a PayPal policy that seems unjust, if not illegal.

When a buyer uses his credit card to pay for a product through PayPal processing, then files a dispute, the credit card company seizes your funds and PayPal charges you a $20 chargeback fee. The most troubling part of this is not the loss of money or the ridiculous fees, but the fact that PayPal will not tell you who the credit card company is.

This just seems unfair. I mean, how do you know if the credit card company is really responsible and that PayPal isn't just stealing from people. Now, I know the likelihood of PayPal scamming people like this is slim, but there has to be checks and balances. They should be forced to provide us with this information upon request.

Anyone else have an opinion on this?

Be sure to vote in the poll above. Do you still watch storage auction reality TV? If so, what do you watch and how often? If not, why not?

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Berry Weiss - draft or bottle?
« on: April 06, 2015, 10:44:36 AM »
Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss is a fruit / vegetable beer brewed by Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company in Chippewa Falls, WI.

Anyone tried it?  I wonder if Barry is somehow affiliated with this product.

Not sure if you should buy that locker? Ask yourself this question and do the opposite.  ;)

What would Jarrod do?

I've noticed a lot of towing/recovery companies abandoning vehicles at storage facilities...I wonder why that is?

A new online storage auction service provider (StorageStuff.bid) recently emerged on the scene. Like a few of the others, it uses a licensed auctioneer. According to a recent press release, they're licensed in Florida with plans to get licenses in several other states. Like most auctioneers, they collect a percentage from the storage operator. Looks like buyers don't pay a fee.

Now, using a licensed auctioneer isn't a requirement. After all, most people wouldn't use an auctioneer to sell their stuff on eBay. That would be an unnecessary expense. Although, I do see some value in the "service" that auctioneers offer. Assistance with organization, lock cutting, inventory, preparation of legal notices, advertising channels, their following, complying with state lien laws, etc. I believe that technology and auctioneers can co-exist in this market, even thrive together under the right circumstances.

My opinion: I think we'll see more auctioneers entering this market with local sites over the years to come.

Here is a little secret for auctioneers  :67:  - You don't have to spend tens of thousands of dollars building and maintaining an auction website. OnlineStorageAuctions.com is free to use for both buyers and sellers. We welcome auctioneers to use our platform. We realize how important you guys are to the industry and we don't try to cut you out like our competitors do. Just host your auctions with us, then collect your fee directly from the buyer or your storage client.
