Is it finale or FINALLY! :D

So, what do you think. Will this be the final season of Storage Wars? Does anyone even still watch it?

Online Storage Auctions / Man Alledges Storage Battles is Breaking the Law
« on: February 26, 2015, 08:04:27 PM »
Just came across ANOTHER (#8) RipoffReport.com complaint against Storage Battles. Here is what the complainant said:

First, in order to bid on these local "public lien auctions" .."you must belong to the private membership of storage battles, and own a credit card for these "public cash lien auctions".Online public auctions discriminates against a class of cash buyers (He must not know that OnlineStorageAuctions.com doesn't charge fees or require a credit card ;D ) and in my opinion are breaking some local state laws and federal laws. These auctions are title public lien sales, open to all to buy a lien storage unit of contents.

In an entirely different complaint, a STORAGE FACILITY MANAGER said:

Storage battles also restrict cash buyers from attending the lien sale, they want you to join their site or you can't bid,and this is opening up a new can of legal worms for the defaulted tenants of these units, excluding a class of "CASH" BUYERS that would pay more or less for a unit, but are excluded from the auctions unless fee's are paid to storage battles.

So what do you think? Do these complaints have merit? Do Storage Battles' practices discriminate against a certain class or violate lien laws in some states?

Just came across a great article about the fight for independence from the stranglehold newspapers have had on the storage industry for decades. Check it out let us know what you think.

eBay / Buyer returns - package empty or never arrives
« on: February 25, 2015, 04:46:30 PM »
What happens if a buyer requests a return, but when you receive the package it's empty or it never arrives at all? Is it now the buyer's responsibility to file an insurance claim? How does eBay/PayPal handle a situation like this?

General Storage Auction Talk / Advanced Storage Lenders
« on: February 23, 2015, 05:23:34 PM »
I was recently contacted by a guy who started a service which loans money to people who are about to lose their storage unit. The name of the company is Advanced Storage Lenders, you can Google them if you would like more information. Although they're targeting delinquent storage tenants, there doesn't seem to be much difference between their service and a traditional payday loan company. Apparently they don't hold the storage unit as collateral.

I've thought about starting a service like this in my area, but decided against it due to the time commitments involved. If I were going to start a service like this, I'd require the tenant to sign over their storage unit to me, that way I could resell the contents if they defaulted on the loan.

This might be a good gig for some of you though. If you let all of the storage facility managers in your area know about the service, you could do quite well through referrals. Not only that, the defaulted units could be a good source of inventory for your resale business.

What do you guys and gals think about this idea?

General Storage Auction Talk / OSA needs YOUR help!
« on: February 17, 2015, 05:21:29 PM »
As most of you know, OnlineStorageAuctions.com doesn't charge a fee to buy or sell storage units on the site. That being said, we obviously don't have the same budget as some of our competitors for marketing our service to storage operators. We are actively seeking investors, but until that point, we need YOUR help getting the word out.

Over the years, I've learned that the best form of advertising is word of mouth, so I would like to ask each of you to speak to your local facility managers about OSA, especially those companies who currently use one of our competitors.

Tell them you're tired of paying a 10-15% buyer's premium.

Also, let them know that they can sell their storage units on our site at no cost.

OSA is the most visited storage auction site on the web and we have the user base to consistently deliver optimal results.

Since the beginning, I've wanted to keep this site free for everyone, but I need your help. You guys & gals are out there in the field everyday and these facility managers know and trust you. Your recommendation goes a long way and can do wonders for the future of OSA. If this site has helped you in any way, I'd greatly appreciate your help now.

General Storage Auction Talk / When to hold your cards
« on: February 14, 2015, 07:12:10 PM »
As a reseller, good negotiation skills are a must, and knowing when to hold your cards is your ticket to higher profit margins.

Here are some scenarios where I usually don't negotiate on the price.

1. Person calls me and tells me he's driving 100+ miles to come see the item.

2. Person shows up with a trailer.

What other clues do people give off that indicate they've already made a buying decision?

Stores / If you could, would you open a resale shop?

If you could, would you open a resale shop? Why or why not?

Just came across an email from StorageAuctionSpy.com, which I believe is a sister company of Storage Unit Auction List. The email claims "StorageAuctionSpy.com, is the only service that provides exclusive pictures of every upcoming storage auction, and the contents inside each unit."

BS meter going off yet? ... it get's better.

The website claims:

Each month, there are 10,000+ storage auctions and over 50,000 individual units up for auction, wouldn't it be nice to know what the units look like, before you go?

HOW IT WORKS:

1. You submit the auction you'd like to get photos for

2. A Spy Agent receives the pictures using secret methods   :o You can't make this stuff up folks.

3. Delivers the pictures to you via email, exclusively. This means you will be the only one to obtain access to the pictures. This gives you an advantage above every other attendee. As we say... "Know before you go"

So, where do I begin? First of all, there is no way this service could have photos of every storage unit up for auction throughout the United States. Quite frankly, I'd be amazed if they had images of more than 10% of the units that go to auction each month. Second, Storage Unit Auction List is an aggregator which pulls data, including images, from other public sources. The images on the public websites they scrape have been viewed thousands of times, so I don't see how they can make a claim like "This means you will be the only one to obtain access to the pictures. This gives you an advantage above every other attendee.

I have a feeling that if you sign up for this service, you might feel like the spy shagged you.

eBay / Irrational eBay Buyers
« on: February 07, 2015, 04:16:54 PM »
Jeez, I want to strangle this guy who bought an item from me on eBay. The listing clearly says allow 1 business day for shipping. The auction ended Friday night around 9:00 pm CST. The buyer paid around midnight. He emails me Saturday morning demanding that I ship the item on Saturday. I work on the auction schedules all day Saturday so I don't have time to meet his request. He's being really persistent and I have a feeling he's going to leave me negative feedback if I send it to him on Monday. I told him the item will be shipped first thing Monday morning and if that wasn't satisfactory, I would issue a refund. Haven't received a response yet.

Has anyone else had some irrational requests from eBay buyers?

How often do you find money in storage units?

Most of my finds have been coin jars. Found 20 or so silver quarters once, that was nice.
