The Treasure Chest / Just got a washing machine, free of charge
« on: November 15, 2011, 08:46:41 AM »
Raining like crazy here, so was not planning on doing much today. However while I was posting here on a different thread, my mother in-law called, said there was a washer machine in my alley that she saw. (she lives pretty damn close). So I go grab it, figuring if anything it will be a quick $50, the going price in my area for non working household appliances. So I am covered in rain and get to the washing machine, hell it looks in real good condition, maybe only a few years old. So after it stops raining I am going to dry it off and see if it is in working condition. I may be able to get $150 - $200 if it is working. :)

Garage Sales / Garage sale today
« on: September 03, 2011, 02:19:19 PM »
Selling alot of my items for a dollar or less. Some $5 items. Then a few higher items. The morning rocked, but now it is down to a slow crawl. Made $85. But remember most of the items are for a dollar or less. So I am pleased with what I made. Im just trying to get rid of this inventory so I can completely refresh it. Here in about 2 hours I will be packing all of it up except for a handful of items(saving for a different day) and I am donating it to a thrift store to get my tax write off.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Best thing you personally found in a locker
« on: September 01, 2011, 09:55:10 AM »
Whether it is a favorite piece, or most valuable piece.

My valuable piece:
Vintage Solid wood Oak Desk, absolutely no metal, very good craftsmanship. I got $250 for it. However if I sold it at a flea Market and not a yard sale I could of gotten $500 for it. Even more if I would of refinished the surface. Was worn pretty bad on the top of the desk.

My favorite piece:
An antique vice stamped with a patent of 1905. I dont remember the details about it. But company closed down in the 30's. So the 85lb vice I had to have been made between 1905 and 1930ish. Sad thing was it needed some work to make the vice clamp close, open it had no problem, but would not close. The way that company made them would of cost more to fabricate the replacement piece then what the piece would of been worth. I got $40 for it. If it was all fixed up I could of gotten a little over $100. So I was happy.

Laws about Storage Auctions / Texas State Laws on Self Storages
« on: August 24, 2011, 07:58:57 PM »
I figure it be a good idea for each state to do this, Drew I would also at same time like to request for an area on the forums that will keep each state's laws as well as question and comments, and new state laws affecting particular state.

This is the link for the State of Texas: And do please take note that this is going to change in Jan 2012.

I am starting to wonder about it. And if it is a good viable way to make money selling your items you get out of other auctions and sells? As well as making a commission on other people's stuff. Could you do storage auctions and an auction house with a few people, and I dont mean 15 or more either?

Just some things I am throwing around in my head.

Thanks

What's it Worth?? / Been holding onto them for awhile now
« on: August 04, 2011, 09:13:04 PM »
And I have a feeling I was sitting on something good and did not even realize it. Japanese Wood Block Prints. I know these are original, but have yet figured out who the artist or time period they came from. Trying to look it up now. Lots of artist to go through.

I know these (originals) go from $100 to $1,000 each. I have four of them, each professionally framed and previously cataloged. Most likely for an auction. Here is one of them with the signatures. They are all from same artist.

here is a view of the signature:

so if anyone knows about this type of art, please do let me know what I have.

Thanks

General Storage Auction Talk / Needing a loan
« on: July 21, 2011, 02:06:05 AM »
And I do not mean I want any of you to loan me the money.

Since my budget and operating at this current time is minimal to none. IMO only because I am not able to buy in the volume I need to be buying in. I am looking to go through all the red tape and set up this business into a 100% complete legitimate with structure. Meaning, taxes, tax number, permits, box truck or at least trailer, maybe even renting an actual store, employees, registered business name, actual business account (instead of my personal one). Doing all this and more to get it all setup. Applying for at least a $5,000 loan for start up cost on inventory. Borrowing more as time goes by and business itself expands for the need of a physical location.

I know what some people say, I know what G. Cameron says. But I want to hear from anyone that has done these steps and get their opinion on it, experiences, and expertise.

General Storage Auction Talk / Wiping my inventory clean
« on: June 22, 2011, 09:09:18 PM »
Ok, after so long of trying to sell alot of my stuff piece by piece, I have decided to sell my 10x10 which is only 1/4 to 1/2 full for $200. Only thing I am keeping out of it is a few rare records (I know I will find the right buyer), the 4 Japanese Vintage professional framed prints (going to take it to an art dealer or auction house), and a few Military Collectibles since I have a buyer for that. All in all, from what I figured I could make off with it, but cant do yard sales right now, and flea market out of question, I am losing about $300. But I am gaining that quick $200. Which will put me right back into the black with money in pocket to go back out there.

Oh, almost forgot, I am looking into a few investors, well, will only be choosing one, that will help me get the business soring where I can start the flea market booths with. Will be more than doubling investor's investment in a calendar year. Had a few bites for it, but no one has taken me completely serious as of yet. Wonder if I will find that right investor.
