Travis, please consider giving Facebook its own section in the Marketplace. This has become a huge selling venue for us and I'm sure many others. I think it may deserve a spot of its own. Thanks

What's it Worth?? / vinyl 45's
« on: February 12, 2013, 01:58:02 PM »
I have a collection of 366 vinyl 45's with their original sleeves. They span the late 60's to mid 80's. All the big names from rock, pop and disco are there. Stones, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Bee Gees etc. I have a solid offer of $100.00 for the lot, but a little unsure of their real value.  I prefer to sell them in one lot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My wife and I got up this morning and began listing items on Craigslist. By the time the Super Bowl kicked off we had 4 sales totaling $350.00 and another lined up for Monday. Hope everyone has days like this, they sure are fun.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Human Cremains

Got my first one a couple weeks ago. The facility refused to take any personals from the 2 units I won. All the box had on it was a name. What would you have done with them?

Craigslist / Help with possible scam reply
« on: August 14, 2012, 10:51:37 AM »
I have an item on craigslist for $75.00 and put in my ad no email with instructions to call my cell. Took Moviemans advice early on, only deal with phone callers and I finish nearly every sale this way. Once in awhile I'll respond to an email if things are a little slow, which brings me to today. Email response (edited): ok with price, ready to make instant purchase, paying via US Certified Cashiers Check, will arrange for pickup after payment clears, I promise everthing will go smoothly, I really wish I could be there but am a very busy person, will overnight payment upon receipt of mailing info.

Any thoughts from craigslist veterans would be greatly appreciated.

Garage Sales / Winter Yard Sales in Southeast
« on: December 26, 2011, 01:25:56 PM »
For those of you in the southeast, do you have yardsales in the winter months? We get many sunny 50 degree days that would be nice yardsale weather to me, but don't see alot of them. Thinking about watching weather and picking a good Saturday, put ad on Craiglist couple days before, road signs and see what happens. If anyone does this, how was it?

« on: October 11, 2011, 04:56:24 PM »
Got a nice little unit yesterday for 65.00 that had 27 framed pictures, 2 oil on canvas paintings, a bunch of glassware, luggage set, patio chairs and misc. smalls. Took 2 trips in van, 6 total miles, zero clothes, zero trash and didn't even have to sweep. Feeling better than last week.  :)

General Storage Auction Talk / How appropriate
« on: October 01, 2011, 06:11:30 PM »
Got my first loser unit this weekend, and when I log in I'm back to noobie status. Wish I had been a looky loo yesterday, but it was just a matter of time I guess. 5 total hours of work cleaning out, 2 dump runs and a probable 40.00 loss. Oh well, it's fall break for the wife and kids and I'm on vacation for ten days.  8)

Garage Sales / Yard Sale Time
« on: September 22, 2011, 07:46:42 PM »
Having a yardsale with stuff from first 6 units Fri/Sat. I know there is a lot of debate as to method but I think the most important factor is location/demographics. I have 4 tables of merchandise priced individually, about 400 pieces of clothing on 50 cent tables, 90 pairs of jeans on hanging racks @ 2.00 each and several winter coats @ 3-5 bucks. Already done 55.00 in sales the last 2 days from co-workers that couldn't make it during sale. Split advertising with neighbors who are participating, so cost was low. Will get back Sunday and let everyone know how it went.

General Storage Auction Talk / Got one today, but have a question.
« on: August 27, 2011, 07:08:09 PM »
I got a unit today and have been wondering what some of you would have done. 2 units and 12 people there, the first was mine, a 5x10 with 13 totes w/lids, a dozen small avon boxes, 3 christmas trees in box ( 1 a nice fiber optic lighted), small filing cabinet, bissel vacuum, and 2 electric space heaters that looked new and unopened was visable from the door. The totes had labels like winter coats, sweaters etc. I opened with $10.00 and another guy bid and off we went in 5.00 increments as i hoped to get it as cheap as possible instead of jumping it to try to scare him off. The totes looked like mostly clothes and I knew it was a woman's unit. I got it for $105.00. The facility was 2 miles from the house and cleanout took an hour. I've already gone thru everthing and looks like I'll make about $150.00 off all the stuff I got as it's mostly good yardsale items. I really needed the totes and I love these types of units. My question is how many of you would grab a unit like this mainly for the totes and the unknown.

General Storage Auction Talk / got my biggest unit
« on: July 23, 2011, 11:48:12 AM »
Hey everyone, went to an auction on Tuesday with 11 units available and got the second to last one, a packed 10 by 10 for 250.00. There were only 15 at the auction but almost every one of them were regulars that I see all the time. This did not give me alot of hope, but they spent 350-725 on 9 of the 11 units, and maybe ran out of steam. Took me three days to clean out in 98 degree heat as well as the regular job, so I need a nap. So far I've found some Waterford crystal, huge Northpole tent, Singer sewing machine, 2 nice tv's (not flatscreen), dining table n chairs, teak outdoor bench, antique school desk, and a garage full of other stuff. One item is an old looking wood box that clasps on both ends and has rows of holes bored inside, when pulled apart both halves are identicle. Will post some pictures in "what is it" so someone can help me figure out what it might be.

General Storage Auction Talk / #3
« on: July 15, 2011, 08:05:10 PM »
Got a small unit that was a little trashy for 25.00 yesterday. Already sold an old Quasar stereo and some dishes that put me into profit. Think I'll end up with about 50.00 in sales and i got 3 nice mirrors for my collection. Nothing to exciting, but didn't take a lot of time and effort to clean out.

General Storage Auction Talk / Silent Strategy
« on: July 12, 2011, 02:47:49 PM »
Went to a silent auction after work today and had to submit one bid for all 3 units, winner take all. Two of the three had nothing but broken furniture, third all boxes with little showing. I didn't really want it, but threw in a low bid anyway and didn't win. Any different strategy at these types of auctions?

What's it Worth?? / Subwoofer help
« on: July 05, 2011, 11:05:59 AM »
I have a pair of Cerwin-Vega HT-10D subwoofers from one of my lockers, haven't tested them yet, but do they have much value? They are in fair to good shape, cones look good and boxes have slight, but repairable damage.Thanks.
