General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Fraudulent Locker sells for $9,500 !
« on: October 12, 2013, 08:10:18 PM »
So, you guys have 96 listings in my zip code for the next 2-3 weeks. The problem with that is there are over 130 occurring this week and over 300 within the next 3 weeks. Legal notices are copyrighted material. Are you saying that you guys copy and paste your listings directly from the newspapers' websites to Storage Treasures? I know the newspapers didn't give you authorization to retransmit their content.

There's not much point in arguing about storage listings any more, with a new subscription by mile radius SUAL.com pretty much has that market locked up. $10 bucks for a 100 mile radius which for me crosses into another state... Its a no brainer.

Man I have been missing some solid posts...I usually only check the main storage related ones. I think this in fact can be classified as some type of solid research. As for the topic of the karma rating itself....a quote by the inventor of the light bulb comes to mind.

Flea Markets / Re: Haitian people ar flea markets, suck

Just an FYI, your "guard dog" remark is technically name calling and a personal attack. This is a violation of the TOS for this site and if I were to follow your path of trying to impose my way of thinking on others I would be required to delete your post.  ::)

It wouldn't be the first (or second/third) time my posts were deleted, but then again this thread seems to be protected under some kind of immunity.

If I am the "guard dog" you mention making stellar remarks about everyone having an opinion consider this:

I thought it would be more obvious that was directed at alloro, although to be fair his intelligent assessment of people having opinions was made a few posts back. The ''guard dog'' reference to imply that Travis seems to be letting him handle this one, since he has been dully noted to be absent from this thread.

Our fearless leader is noticeably absent in the best thread discussion since his reign of terror began. Since the chances of him not seeing this thread are literally zero, that must mean he supports the OP in some indirect way. What will bring him out of hiding? Shots at his other business ventures? Talking about his competition? Of course the guard dog has been doing a good job in here with stellar remarks about everyone having an opinion. Everyone can think for themselves? Really?

It is a fact that Haitians will steal off your tables dis-proportionally more than many other ethnic groups.

There's no way you can make a statement like this and back it up by calling it a fact. An example of a fact would be; Tallahassee is the capitol of Florida. Not that X Racial group will steal more than any other.

Did you report the post, or just complain of it's existence?
Is the post accurate, meaning do Haitian people always steal from him like he said, or is he simply exaggerating?
If true, has it happened repeatedly, or was it a one time theft?

Just because someone generalizes a particular group of people doesn't mean he's wrong. Personally I wasn't there and don't know what did or did not happen, but he was there and did say what happened to him. So instead of believing one of our registered members, a few decided to defend some nameless strangers that could very well be guilty of the theft as claimed? Now there's some backwards thinking IMHO.

Generalizing a group of people to begin with is wrong. Who cares if he is exaggerating or if its happened repeatedly? That's like asking why didn't he word this topic differently, like why do people steal? What can I do to stop getting stolen from?

Am I Haitian? No. Am I offended? No. But that doesn't mean its not offensive just because we don't have a single Haitian member. No one is defending 'nameless strangers' just stating the obvious. Like if instead of being insulting, this thread was about storagebattles or SUAL.com, it would of been deleted within 24 hours of its creation.

Craigslist / Re: September Contest - $50 Gift Card
« on: October 01, 2013, 08:31:30 PM »
!
I'll try to have the final count this evening. Thanks to everyone who participated.

I think we saw considerable growth in the Craigslist section this month.

The October contest is for the most posts in the "Storage Auctions "In The News" category.

You should offer a $500 gift card for total posts in a month across the board. Then we can talk about growth!

I never have myself but people do around here all the time. There are two things about this. The first is  how would both parties feel equally satisfied? How could you possibly account for a true 50-50 split unless the locker was tediously priced out on every item.

The other is, if your teaming up on a single locker, its going to be obvious to any observant bidder that its happening. I love to hang out in the back to literally have the view of everyone present. Not to mention you are tipping your hand to the other bidders by saying "I don't have enough cash to own this outright".

There truly is an art to bidding as all the pros know. $5 increments? High bid at the start? Just the other day I stole a military unit for $50 bucks by doubling the $25 start. At least it felt that way.  ;)

Interesting. The only problem I see is you would end up having to rent the unit either way to allow time for the auction and the person to pick up the stuff. I'll be keeping my eye on how this auction ends. I've would consider listing some units on your site to see how it goes, but it seems to be mostly western states listing. Though I'm sure you'd appreciate some traffic coming from North Carolina.

Craigslist / Re: A story about free craigslist ads...
« on: September 22, 2013, 09:24:38 AM »
This happens more often than you think. Some people will do or say anything to get merchandise. Something I like to do is search peoples number on craigslist. Its funny to see the same person having an ad up seeking donations with a sob story, but also their 10 other listings selling the items that were given to them.

I've made more than my share fair from things given to me or found on the side of the road, but never under the guise of a 'story'.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Is your significant other a hoarder?
« on: September 22, 2013, 09:16:58 AM »
Are thread topics so low we needed a "Are you a hoarder" and "Is your significant other a hoarder"?

Me and my girlfriend enjoy watching the shows on TV about them, and I am friends with a couple on the auction circuit who are hoarders. It was like a privilege being invited into their home. They are clean hoarders, with piles of brand new merchandise/knick knacks piles everywhere as far and high as you could see. It is kind of weird wondering how they could live like that, with literally the only space being walkways from room to room and some couch space.

The Treasure Chest / Re: Large Lladro Figurine

Nice score, I got my first taste of Lladro a few months back when I sold a Mary and Joseph for around 60 bucks. I never got a hit at $99 or best offer for months, then just decided to do a 99 cent auction and it racked in.

Craigslist / Re: Will You Take Cashier's Checks, Money Orders & PayPal
« on: September 06, 2013, 09:23:15 AM »
The scams are annoying. Everytime I get a text I'm thinking 'Alright! Some business!' Nope...just spam. I have accepted just a regular old check from people off craigslist, and would accept paypal if met before hand in person.
